Only one more #SundayFishSketch - #25DaysofFishmas mystery fish before the big day!

For Sunday December 21, sketch the species you think these clues are describing (don't spoil it early if you know it!). The answer will be revealed with the day's #Fishmas calendar! @lampichthys.bsky.social

I'm surprised at how many Canadian scientists are complaining about this decision. (A thread)
Do I think Canadian scientists should have more funding, yes,
BUT
that doesn't mean we should invalidate this good decision. (1/n)
Canada’s new government is investing big to attract world-class talent in science and technology — and become an innovation powerhouse.

Rudolph, the red-eared reindeer! 🦌

With ears so bright, the Redear Sunfish (Lepomis microlophus) guides us into Day 2 of #25DaysofFishmas! This member of the sunfish family found throughout the southeastern US is a warm-water loving ray of sun on a cold winter day ☀️

🎶It’s beginning to look a lot like #Fishmas🎶

There’s no better fish to kick off this year’s #25DaysofFishmas than the aptly-named Christmas darter (Etheostoma hopkinsi)! We get our road trip started down in the southeastern US with this small species of fish who has big holiday spirit all year long

#25DaysofFishmas is hitting the road! While there's no place like H.O.M.E.S. for the holidays, we'll be traveling beyond the #GreatLakes this year to learn about freshwater fishes from across the US. The road trip kicks off December 1!

Today was a great day at #ICFT
I had the privilege to present my research this morning, and I joined in on some song and dance in the evening at the banquet.

6 days of field work and likely the last until my next position. It's nice to get out of the office once in a while and relive why I chose this career path. It's also always a great time when working with the CFAAS crew at SIU.

Neglecting to consider mortalities can create bias in telemetry studies. The R package 'mort' identifies potential mortalities &/or expelled tags in passive telemetry arrays, filling an important gap in workflows when analysing passive telemetry data🐾👇

Canada's federal funding awards just added eligibility for international applicants if at Cdn institutions.

Why DEI are important!
🚨 Menstruation & fieldwork: an overlooked challenge in natural sciences.

🔬 The survey (429 participants, 86% women) found:
🔹 48% experience significant menstrual pain in the field
🔹 85% say first aid kits lack menstrual products
🔹 Only 30.5% feel comfortable discussing it with male supervisors
"Sangre, sudor e investigación: el Impacto de la menstruación en el trabajo de campo en ciencias naturales"
