I just registered for this event. There is a fee (a small one if you take advantage of the early bird deal). I always find Dr.Haynes and Dr.Williams @reggiel.bsky.social interesting and well-informed speakers. I'm looking forward to attending online.

I started the year yesterday with a long snowshoe trek while thinking of this Thomas Merton quote:

"One has to be alone, under the sky, before everything falls into place and one finds his own place in the midst of it all."

Happy New Year to all!!

Excellent line.
I wish Mayor Mamdani well, and I am rooting for him and all of New York. (Well, except the Mets)

2025 was a really hard year for members of my family, friends, and many marginalized people in my community & beyond. A few years ago, I posted this lyric from David Gray's 'A Tight Ship' as a wish for the coming year.

May we "relearn the grace of selfless things"

Sunday Bonhoeffer New Years Edition:

"With every power for good to stay and guide me,
comfort and inspired beyond all fear,
I'll live these days with you in thought beside me,
and pass, with you, into the coming year."

Wishing everyone a happy and safe New Year.

The Sunday Bonhoeffer post is going to be super late as we are prepping for a major storm that will hit later today. Stay safe everyone in Ontario!

It was the perfect day to take my new Christmas present for a spin. Tackled a small hill at the park near my house and some of the urban trails. The snowfall last night helped!

Absolutely shame on defunding this vital and life-saving service! And homelessness was also pointed out to be the #1 local problem in 2025 in the local newspaper! Big disconnect! It's not all about mental illness and addiction either! It's about affordable rents!

Following the King's address, the combined choir of "Songs for Ukraine" and the Royal Opera House Choir performed the English version of the Ukrainian song "Shchedryk," known as "Carol of the Bells."

A very Merry Christmas to all those observing and celebrating in the next few days.
Over the last few years, my family has changed and grown smaller, but my appreciation for this Christmas song by @ronsexsmith.bsky.social has grown immensely
Happy Christmas to all

It all started in 1955 with a misprint in a Colorado newspaper and a call to Col. Harry Shoup's secret military hotline. Shoup played along with the tiny voice who called, and a tradition was born.

Vive la résistance! Vive le journalisme!
Oh yeah Global TV (in Canada or by VPN) has the full uncut 60 Minutes story on its 60 Minutes rebroadcast. CBS must have sent them the original tape.

Excellent post on the life of Betty Reid Soskin. May her memory be a source of inspiration to us all.

Several years ago, I interviewed Teresa Derrington, who memorably played Fred's maid in the 1951 #AChristmasCarol adaptation with Alastair Sim. My blog has now moved to WordPress, so for all the fans of "the maid," here's the new link to that interview. #Dickens dickensblog.com/2013/05/06/m...
Meet the maid: An interview with Teresa Derrington Cozens-Hardy
Some time ago, I did a blog post about the actress who played Fred’s maid in the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol, known in Britain as Scrooge. I wrote that viewers loved her, but no on…

A video from "The Second Sons" showed up on my YouTube feed the other day, and it took me seconds to report it. Canada has an insidious white nationalist problem, and reports like this one from the CBC will only help to bring to light the real motivations of this group.

On this day, several years ago, I ordered a book on a whim so Amazon would deliver my sister's replacement vacuum bags. I'm so happy I took a photo to send to her to let her know they arrived. That order changed the course of my life!
