Big win for Scotland’s nature! The Natural Environment Bill passed by MSPs will bring in legally binding targets to restore wildlife and habitats. Huge thanks to LINK’s members and supporters who helped make this happen! Let’s keep pushing for strong action and funding to restore Scotland’s nature.

Another year and another wonderful UK Moth Recorders Meeting. An annual highlight for me. These were my two favourite talks; from Kent and Ireland. Thanks to @savebutterflies.bsky.social for continuing to put on this lovely event each year.

An intrepid band of volunteers braved the rain today for Cornwall Butterfly Conservation's work party at Wheal Maid. We were removing encroaching Gorse, Sallow and Cotoneaster from a south-facing slope to restore the heathland for Grayling and Silver-studded Blues.

POV you're a Peacock butterfly soaking up every last scrap of winter sunshine

We'd hiss too if someone was blocking our sun!

For #MothMonday, we present to you: the magnificent Twenty Plume (Alucita hexadactyla)

Its English name is slightly misleading, as each wing is actually separated into 6 'plumes'. The scientific name is more accurate, meaning 'six-fingered'. 🖐️

And in a sunny spell we spotted movement. "A butterfly!!!" we exclaimed as this Peacock awoke and fluttered above the Bramble before settling back. It took ages to refind but flew again and landed next to the path.

With a wingspan up to 30mm, it is the UK's smallest resident butterfly.

Butterflies and moths are sounding the alarm. Nature in the UK is in crisis. 🚨

Wildlife and natural places are under pressure from development, climate change and habitat loss - and yet a new report, the Nuclear Regulatory Review, suggests weakening the protections that help keep what remains safe.
