Had to use Google maps today and I thought the same thing.

Almost every product from Google has seemed to decline over the last few years.
I accidentally updated the iPhone iOS last night, despite weeks of refusing to do so, and it’s amazing how tech tech companies manage to make their products worse with every improvement

why has nobody made a VR "early 1980s shopping simulator" that simulates the experience going into a Radio Shack or Toy "R" Us

Bsky feels clean X is like a grimy closet

It's a shame I was planning to host my first product on Hetzner. I'll have to look at other options now.
Hetzner servers (in the US) are getting more expensive and have less bandwidth included 🥲

I've only ever trained regression models and classifiers. I've always been intimidated by other types of models now seems like the time to go for it.

The actual cross-jurisdictional incomparibility of statistics is something I think many completely undersell or don't remotely understand. No the US is just exceptional at understanding/attributing things, we do not have higher maternal death than Senegal.
nothing will make you appreciate FRED more than trying to use non-US public stats databases

If anything we might be approaching a period of rapid technological innovation
November 28, 2024 at 1:29 PM
?

Biotech says hello
There's basically been no major technological innovation in the last 3 decades. It's the illusion of progress. All of it is based on key discoveries from decades ago. Even AI is based on papers developed in the 80s. We're stagnating and the consequences will be dire for an endless growth paradigm.

Ok, probably shouldn't talk about AI any since this platform seems incredibly hostile to developers and researchers

Someone really got banned for posting a huggingface dataset

What next you'll have to censor links to Kaggle or GitHub?

There's still a huge market for GPT wrappers

The Claude app barely works

Bring your own algorithm

Nice!

"bluesky has no algorithm"

it does! it has many algorithms. it has as many as you want, in fact — and any developer can make their own.

there is also a default Discover algorithmic feed (which probably should be renamed to For You) that we maintain.

the difference is just you're not stuck with it

I pretty much only get on platforms for tech but bsky gives me blueanon vibes lol

Sometimes I get tired of X and hop on here but then I get that mid 30s millennial HR vibe

Hot take: censorship isn't good

Pedagogy, marketing, and propaganda all seem like subjects I'll have to dive into if I want to maintain sanity
November 22, 2024 at 11:59 AM
This is the beginning of a fully cemented post truth era. Things are about to get really funny, not haha funny, as we won't be able to maintain social consensus.

Can we make group chats on this app?

I'm gonna give Bluesky a try but so far it's still dominated by what I can best describe as "theater kid energy" or "the vibes of an RA trying to organize a dorm activity"

Seems like there's no "crypto bluesky" yet

Every one else is on Farcaster or Twitter

I am very glad that Trump will not be inheriting unaccountable administrative power to censor and control modern information platforms, despite many democrats attempts at providing it
