Imagine being such a staple of pop culture that people still watch the show named after your character 20 years later and yet not being able to afford healthcare

Last week, I went to Licorice Pizza records to check out Annapurna's Mixtape. Aside from its incredible soundtrack, it's a moving journey that blends eloquence and teenage silliness with ease, and I haven't stopped thinking about it.
Mixtape is a Poignant Reminder of the Music That Makes Us
Every mixtape tells a story.

Is it just me or has Wordpress gotten significantly harder to navigate? I remember it being fairly intuitive, and now updating my personal site feels like pulling teeth.

Just about everything about applying to jobs in the current market is demoralizing, but getting rejections on a Sunday morning really packs an extra-bitter punch.

Thanks to the generosity of @susanarendt.bsky.social, I’m at Persona Live at the Dolby Theater in downtown LA. It’s where the Oscars are held, so imagine a classy old Hollywood theater overtaken by nerds and cosplayers.

Love this idea, but it's a shame that it's limited to shows with "a minimum of 60 episodes across five seasons." One-season wonders like My So-Called Life and Freaks and Geeks have persisted in the pop culture conversion for decades despite having fewer than 20 episodes apiece.

I fucking loved the Stranger Things finale. And now I’m having too many feelings.

Us: “New Jersey.”

Him: “Oof.”

The Alters didn’t get enough attention this year but it is great and you should play it. Easily in my top 5 of a stacked year for games.

No Man’s Sky is a great example of what happens when you actually stick with a game long enough to iterate and improve rather than shutting it down and firing the dev team if it doesn’t make eleventy billion dollars at launch

More stellar reporting from Alyssa here~

With plenty of TGAs discourse to come, I’d like to remind y’all that two things can be true: Getting nominated/winning is a huge honor to the game devs who worked their butts off to entertain us this year, particularly smaller studios who need visibility…
New from me! An in-depth look at access to The Game Awards, from seat fillers to major studios.

The Game Awards is bigger and more expensive than ever. Even some nominated developers are getting priced out. Our report: https://kotaku.com/game-awards-geoff-keighley-tickets-trailers-clair-obscur-2000652243

How is it that us plebs have been calling out this nonsense from day one and supposed tech geniuses didn’t see it coming? Where are our billions?
Facebook renamed its entire company because Zuck was convinced he was going to build and own the metaverse lmao

I wish I could remember who said it, but once heard that GenAI doesn’t give answers, it gives answer-shaped responses. This is a great example of what that means.

One thing I’ve noticed working with young writers is that they often don’t cite sources because they’ve never been trained to do so, sometimes because they cut their teeth working for sketchy publications like this one.
There are a few reasons why publications don't source properly, including:

- not wanting you clicking away from their article
- wanting to trick you into thinking they're more of an authority than they are
- wanting you to spend more time on the page.

It's all sketchy, is what I'm saying.
we have got to have a conversation about how some game sites handle sourcing because why do you have to scroll all the way to the bottom underneath the ads and database entries of this gamerant article to find out the source of this mysterious "recent interview?"

This knocked a memory loose in the ol’ brain-space. One time, at a corporate job, someone three levels above me asked me “What about SEO?”

Me: “…What about it?”

“Should we do something with that?”

The year was ~2014. I wrote copy for a website.
Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.
