I write about video games and other things. Seen @ IGN, Polygon, Ars Technica, NBC News, & more. Ask me about my cats.
How is it that us plebs have been calling out this nonsense from day one and supposed tech geniuses didn’t see it coming? Where are our billions?
Facebook renamed its entire company because Zuck was convinced he was going to build and own the metaverse lmao

I wish I could remember who said it, but once heard that GenAI doesn’t give answers, it gives answer-shaped responses. This is a great example of what that means.

One thing I’ve noticed working with young writers is that they often don’t cite sources because they’ve never been trained to do so, sometimes because they cut their teeth working for sketchy publications like this one.
There are a few reasons why publications don't source properly, including:

- not wanting you clicking away from their article
- wanting to trick you into thinking they're more of an authority than they are
- wanting you to spend more time on the page.

It's all sketchy, is what I'm saying.
we have got to have a conversation about how some game sites handle sourcing because why do you have to scroll all the way to the bottom underneath the ads and database entries of this gamerant article to find out the source of this mysterious "recent interview?"

Attention PR pros and video game friends! I'll be in downtown LA attending Game Awards festivities next month. Got a cool event happening? I wanna be there! Want to hang out/hug/high five? Please let me know!

This knocked a memory loose in the ol’ brain-space. One time, at a corporate job, someone three levels above me asked me “What about SEO?”

Me: “…What about it?”

“Should we do something with that?”

The year was ~2014. I wrote copy for a website.
Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Evergreen question
Why are the workers in the trenches accountable for the ongoing failures of leadership?

I reviewed Jurassic World Evolution 3 for IGN! I'm a big fan of the series and this one really scratches that management sim itch. But with dinosaurs. www.ign.com/articles/jur...

PREACH
The shorter games with worse graphics made by less people discourse is starting again and the nuance lost in this conversation is: we absolutely CAN make big, hyper-realistic games, sustainably. The problem -- and the money drain -- is executive pay, leadership overreach, mismanagement, and whims.

Tron: Ares is SO GOOD and the score is just incredible. I was lucky enough to attend a screening today with my three dads, Jeff Bridges, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross.

This has been my life for almost eight months, and it’s not just games. I can’t understate how brutal it is out here.
Trying to find a job in video games right now is like crawling through hell:

Listen, you can’t post a job listing for a FREELANCE position and then expect applicants to come into an office in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

I mean, you can, but it’s real dumb.

I can tell you from experience it takes just as long to edit an AI-generated article as it does to write one from scratch, and the former still wouldn't be as useful. It might seem like you're saving time and money, but you're really just delaying the inevitable costs and time-consuming fixes.
A new study, based on a survey of 1,150 workers suggests that the injection of AI tools into the workplace has not resulted in a magic productivity boom and instead increased the amount of time that workers say they spend fixing low-quality AI-generated “work.”

AI ‘Workslop’ Is Killing Productivity and Making Workers Miserable
AI slop is taking over workplaces. Workers said that they thought of their colleagues who filed low-quality AI work as "less creative, capable, and reliable than they did before receiving the output."

Regular reminder that I am looking for work! I'm a writer and editor with many talents: crafting brand and product copy, digging down into data and using it to tell a story, reporting and reviewing for games and tech media, whipping up website and social copy, editing for clarity and content, etc.!
