I've always felt weird about baby name shaming. But ever since I learned why Madison became an accepted name for girls, I now find it pointless and controlling (save for certain extreme cases).

My paternal family is from the south, Grandpa chose to live in MI. He was proud of his southern heritage. He used to have a Confederate flag in his lawn & most importantly, he chose to name my Dad after Robert E Lee, despite NO relation.
Today is my dad's birthday.
The irony always makes me cackle.

You know the whole, "never attribute to malice which may be explained by ignorance"?
I think we need to add to it, "never assume calculated thought when it's likely impulsive thoughtlessness."
Most people do crazy bizarre, cruel things cuz they're only thinking of short term gains. 🤷♀️

I'm trying to stay strong and hopeful for the people in my life--my family, my clients...
But I have to confess, I'm feeling truly depressed and hopeless these days.
I'm bracing for my family's life to turn upside down on April 20th, thanks to our gov, and I'm just paralyzed with anxiety & despair.

I graduated with my MSW right into Trump's first term, and that was pretty stressful.
I'm still a therapist into this term and I have to say, I'm more stressed out.

I would have never guessed that something like this would even be thought about -- but I'm thankful for deciding that I wouldn't change my last name for any person I married.
It's not complicated. They're just trying to stop women from being able to vote.
