I just got out of a meeting with an author and he said so damn many wonderful things about my editing. I really needed that.

Alright, I have to say that King Sorrow by Joe Hill is absolutely kicking my ass. I am loving this one so much I cannot even. It's been a hot minute since I've been this engrossed by a book. #amreading

My husband accidentally loaded too much soap in the dishwasher so it was (much to my kids’ delight) dripping bubbles all over the kitchen floor. With that clean, we now have to conquer the dishwasher itself. 😅

I've got an apple spice scented candle going. Soft jazz in the background. An amazing book I'm about to finish editing open on my desktop. It's cloudy outside and chilly...

It's finally starting to feel like fall. 🍁

Good morning, my fellow writers and editors. Don't forget to take time today for your mental health and self-care. Smell the flowers. Stand up and stretch. Drink some water. Sacrifice something to the old gods...

This is the version of the post that everyone needs to see. And all you readers/authors despairing of non-comprehension, etc, we are gaining new fans of fantasy and SF. It might not be the fantasy or SF you personally read, but they're reading and buying where they weren't before.
It hits different reading this whole thread.

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted what I’m reading, so here’s my next one! (With my sad, autumnal garden in the background.)

Have you read it?

What are you reading?

I get asked a lot for advice I'd give first time writers and honestly, it's... just get the words on the page. That's it. Don't worry about anything else until you've got the words on the page. Let that first draft be messy and glorious and fun. Deal with the rest of it later.

I have edited some of the most intensely amazing books back to back recently. It's leaving me with this equally intense book hangover, the likes of which I cannot even.

I have the best job.

HELLO, MY LOVELIES.

Two scheduling things:

1. I'm starting to schedule out through SUMMER OF 2026, so if you want something edited in the first half of 2026, let me know.

2. I have exactly ONE slot open in late November/early December. Let me know if you want it.

Second day in a row I’ve been able to write over 1k words since about 2022. I am Not Productive when my mental health is spiraling, apparently.

But two days of productivity? Words that I *don’t hate*?

I’ve fought really hard for this.

I have a new novelette out today! It's about disabled people caring for one another--even when one of them is a phantom.

It's free to read at @reactorsff.bsky.social.
New story day!

"Phantom View" is about a son caretaking for his father, and discovering a blurry person in all their family photos that he has no memory of. The same figure is in all his dad's paintings--and the figure may be in the house with them right now.

Writing novels is very hard, and everyone who finishes writing one deserves praise and accolades purely for that accomplishment.

You know, one of the worst parts of editing is that I’m constantly working on so many incredible things and I can’t talk about any of them. 🤣

I sat down today and wrote 473 words in A Portrait in Shifting Light and I’m going to celebrate the shit out of that because it has taken me OVER A YEAR to be able to sit here and say, I really *finally* actually have words on a page again.
