A hush.

"Democrats will never fully support disabled people because disability is the antithesis of capitalism. It requires we take a step back from always making a profit when it comes to the lives of people who can produce no profit outside of extraction from our for-profit healthcare system."

100% this.

“So, no, Democrats plunging healthcare negotiations … based on the pinky promises of Rs is not a surprise, it is a known factor for disabled people, particularly when you consider that healthcare and disability are trillion-dollar industries in which their donor class is leveraged to the hilt.

ABA Harms.
More evidence:
"ABA therapy was associated with a greater use of acute mental health services; autistic youth in the ABA group had an overall risk that was 30% higher for mental health hospitalizations"

I've been wanting the Horrible Histories team to take over Doctor Who and a Youtuber (Whotuber?) just suggested the very same thing.
Where's the petition?!

There's a lot of focus in neurodivergent advocacy spaces on emphasising the positives of monotropic thinking, but it's a build with notable downsides, made worse because so few people can naturally empathise with them, so they imagine it's a perverse stubborn choice & not a default setting

I deserve an expert.

I deserve someone who understands my disability.

I deserve someone who sees my struggles.

The NHS is obligated to give a disabled person an expert on their disability.

I feel utterly ignored and desolate.

I wish someone would compile a list of negative autism portrayals, so I could watch television in peace.

(I'd say "problematic portrayals," but we'd be here all day.)

People love to tell disabled folks to “take responsibility”.

Take responsibility for what exactly?

For being sick?

For not getting better?

For needing social supports?

What they really mean is “we don’t want OUR taxes helping YOU survive”

Goodreads is so frustrating. I just want to know the author's world view and prose style, but everyone just recounts the plot. That's the thing I *don't* want to know.

A great piece by Prosocial World on the evolutionary origins of xenophobia.
Xenophobia in the Light of Evolution: On the Origins of Anti-Immigration Sentiment
Besides racial prejudice, what else is behind xenophobia? Among the evolved human instincts, we can find at least two for the anti-immigration sentiment: territoriality and the endowment effect.

What Is Sensory Processing Like For Autistic People?
Autistic people process our senses differently, and that’s okay! People should try and understand that, instead of trying to change us.

I get why this isn't a priority at the moment, but the single thing that would help me most would be making government paperwork easier to understand.

There's a debate going on atm about how much 5 year olds should sit at desks. The weird thing about these conversations is that we have plenty of evidence on how sitting affects health and development but this gets ignored because some people see stillness as a virtue. 🤷‍♀️

But it's frustrating to see so many people just trying to reinforce their preferred narrative.

It's a private option that lets you see less of topics you're not interested in on certain feeds. That's it.

It's not a downvote, thumbs down, etc.
