On 16th March, 1968 Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson Jnr was flying helicopter recon for a US attack on My Lai, an alleged Viet Cong-controlled village in Vietnam.

But as the attack developed below, Thompson realised he was witnessing something something else:

A massacre.

He decided to act. 1/28

The process of reading any link to a New Yorker story is this weird Kafkaesque journey of “You must log in! But you’re already logged in. But no! You must log in. And wait, we don’t think you have a subscription!” And about 50% of the time they show me the story I want to read, possibly by mistake?

I also enjoy:

“Open in app?”
Uh, sure?
“Let’s go to the App Store!”
But I already have the-
“Here’s the app in the App Store! Would you like to open it?”
YES!
“Please log in.”
Oh ffs
“You’ve logged in! Here’s the cover.”
What about the story I wanted to read?
“What story?”
I don’t even care anymore

this is one of my favorite custom feeds, Quiet Posters

it shows you posts from people you follow who don't post that much! so it surfaces friends' posts that might otherwise get drowned out in the Following feed (which is reverse chronological) 🤗
