I think this is absolutely happening and the argument is probably: If we cancel him now, the libs will squawk for a couple days and then something else will distract them, and at least he won’t have that platform anymore.

The M.O., until there are actual consequences, is to just do the bad stuff.
Wondering how much pressure is on CBS to yank Colbert off the air early and what the internal discussions are on how much that would ultimately backfire.

It's not that the US has no soccer history, it's that we've forgotten it.

Season 2 of the soccer podcast I do with my old friend starts tomorrow. Tom is one of the foremost historians of US soccer; I'm a Hollywood writer who coasts on Tom's PhD. That's teamwork!

Check it out, wherever.

Genuine question: is anyone actually a fan of Stephen A. Smith? Or is he just a guy who plays ESPN politics well?

FETTERMAN: I'm a Democrat that's not going to freakout.

*sees a small open flame*

*goes absolutely nuts*
BARTIROMO: If you had a clean bill just showing your ID to vote, you would support that legislation?

FETTERMAN: Yeah. I'm a Democrat that's not going to freakout.

This was a very good interview, and I probably wouldn’t have watched it if CBS hadn’t banned it.

Fortunately, my good friend (and college teammate) is one of the foremost scholars of US soccer, and together we tell stories that even hardcore fans (and other soccer podcasts) don't know 👇

I once saw Robert Duvall sitting on a bench near some public tennis courts, reading a script while kids' clinics were going on. I wondered if maybe he was waiting for a grandkid but an actor friend said, No, that's his method. He memorizes his lines in public, distracting places. RIP to a legend.

The history of the U.S. is waves of immigrants bringing their dreams with them, then either welcoming or shutting out the next wave.

Poor Scots and Irish came to work in mills, cut stone and timber, and be domestic help. (And they played soccer.) To 19th c. MAGA chuds they were "sparrows."
In the 1850s English sparrows were brought to the US to eat caterpillars that were harming trees on the East Coast. By the 1870s they were considered a nuisance—they reproduced too much and were a threat to the “traditional American” ecosystem.

Many new immigrants were also called “sparrows.” 🧵

Any Democrat who says the goal is to work with this guy, or find common ground with the GOP, needs to be primaried and removed.
Trump: “The Democrats refuse to vote for Voter I.D., or Citizenship. The reason is very simple — They want to continue to cheat in Elections. This was not what our Founders desired … There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!“

Unless you’re in the private prison industry, the stock market is the only positive financial indicator after a year of tariffs, DOGE, and GOP incompetence.

So Trump and his parrots are going all in on “The Dow is at 50k!” because that’s not an artificially pumped up bubble that’ll never pop right?
