Finally made it to #Mars!

...at the wonderful Mars Yard at the Planetary Exhibition of the Jagellonian University in #Kraków, #Poland. Equipped with two rovers of Warsaw University of Technology

I have trouble seeing how these felsic veins and dykes at Austurhorn #Icelqnd could have come in by pyroclastic processes and not flow of a fluid magma at 2-3km depth?
Any papers to suggest @fabianwadsworth.bsky.social @htuffen.bsky.social or others working on tuffisite veins et al?

The #LASI7 post-conf fieldtrip in SE #Iceland was a blast!
On day 1 Gudmundur Omar took us into the heart of #Geitafell, once a central #volcano.
We saw the gabbro intrusion that once sat at 2-3 km depth, and the most impressive sheet intrusion complex above that once fed #lava flows!

And with that, the main conference of #LASI7 is over and disappears in our foggy rearview mirrors of time! It was an honor to host all of you VIPS in #Iceland!
See you in a few years in..?

When you organize a conference and tell a bunch of volcanologists NOT to step on the #lava 😎👍🏼

The stage is set! Ready to start #LASI7 #Iceland edition tonight in #Hveragerdi!

How does lava sound when it comes to the surface of the Earth? Listen to a lava flow oozing out of its effusive vent high on the southwestern side of #Etna, 28 August 2025. That day no visits by tourists were allowed on the site, which permitted this (relatively) clean recording

You can't undo robust scientific consensus even if you tried.

It is a well-proven #fact:

Earth's #climate is changing, and that change is human-made.

To all American scientists standing up to this attempt: global #academia is with you

Visited the inspiring George Walker museum in Breiddalsvik in #Iceland last week, saw one of my most inspiring collaborators & friend @claireharnett.bsky.social win the @iavcei.bsky.social Walker award yesterday. What a boost, congrats Claire! 🤩🌋

@iavcei.bsky.social just awarded the well-deserved Thorarinsson medal to planetary volcanism visionary Prof Lionel Wilson. An example for all of us, congrats!!!

Aaaand the #IAVCEI25 assembly has kicked off! Ready for a week of hot #volcano #science!

If you're attending, come see my plenary keynote on #magma intrusion modelling as the first one tomorrow 11:40! 🌋

Visiting the George Walker museum in Breiðdalsvík today is just such an eye-opening lesson again in field work documentation. His notebooks and hand-drawn maps are absolutely amazing in their detail and rigour 🤩🌋

I have the best job in the world. Hi from NE #Iceland 😎

Wonderful day at Hvitserkur in NE Iceland mapping #magma intrusions and flying our drone to image the entire mountain! This work will get us to understand #magma emplacement a whole lot better!

Ready to check out our DJI RTK antenna in Borgarfjordur in NE #Iceland! Prepping for exciting drone flights tomorrow 🤩
Thx @ncn.gov.pl for the gear!

Visiting #Grindavik in #Iceland silences even the most experienced volcanologists. We saw cracked up streets, fenced areas, and cracked houses leaning forward in which cups, pictures and toys still sat in the window. Volcanism has real impact on people's lives.

Great reception at the #Askja building of @haskoliislands.bsky.social discussing our #DAGGER field work plans in East #Iceland and #LASI7 conference planning! Thanks to all!

The independent funding of #Fulbright got me where I am now, being funded by @ncn.gov.pl and interviewed by #NSF funded colleagues from New Mexico Highlands Uni in #Poland! Advancing #volcano #science.

#science needs independent funding, not political interference!
