Product designer living and working in Vienna. Kicked PDF SDK UI standards up a notch, improved regulated software development tools, helped friends create Audio Plugins and Synths and drew hundreds and hundreds of icons in the process.
Pinned
Stuff I worked on as a counterbalance to my last job (B2B SaaS for regulated software development yada yada).

Now gonna have to find a real job again, in case anyone needs help with complex B2B apps. Prolly means less colors at my disposal.

Ah well. 😄

$5 also say pretty much no one among the grindcore masochists ever looked at statistics on who benefits and what the odds are of "making it" or any of the other data points that would show just how naively stupid their approach is (if not more because of how many factors are outside their control).
Fascinating to see how the intellectual core of Silicon Valley seems oblivious to how Stakhanovism did not actually save the Soviet Union
A form of masculinity so arid, so devoid of pleasure, so dedicated to the accumulation of capital (for someone else) that it subsists on 12 hour days 6 days a week, and workouts and rejuvenation and Chinese peptides the rest of the time.

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.

I think there’s a really good business opportunity for creating a LinkedIn-like platform where it’s fine to not be 100% enthusiastic about everything, all the time, and one that comes with a "This makes no sense" and "This is uninformed" emoji reactions for posts and better controls over the feed.

Catching up with former colleagues while you’re out of work and hearing they trolled newly hired Product Designers and the Head of Design who all went "We need a few weeks to dive into the topic and figure out a concept for this" with Figma prototypes and videos you did 2+ years ago does feel weird.

Google DeepMind staffers are pressing leadership on their plans to safeguard the 3,000-person unit from ICE agents.

"As we have seen, government agency tactics can change and escalate quite rapidly. With offices in many metro areas across the US, are we prepared?"

A federal agent allegedly tried to enter Google’s Cambridge campus in the fall, WIRED has learned. Now, staffers want policies that protect them from immigration officials.

ICE operations are spinning up in Maine. @themainemonitor.org is looking to help report on ICE activity there and has set up a page to report what you're seeing. Also includes Signal and encrypted Protonmail options for secure communications.
We want to hear from you if you've seen federal agents detain someone in #Maine, if you know someone who is in #ICE custody, or if you have faced repercussions for observing their activities. If you prefer to contact a specific reporter or editor, you can via email or Signal. Click to learn more 👇

Well, CSS Day is live now ( https://cssday.nl ) and I've got a bunch of related things to do but unfortunately I'm ill and can hardly concentrate.

So the going will be very slow this time.

There's a predictable approach to denial that we're already seeing, which I call the Four Pillars of Disordered Doubt, which allows actors to constantly question evidence that don't fit their preferred narratives.

Okay, so this is an authoritarian playbook trick, once the evidence is overwhelming say everyone needs to wait for the official investigation then either fix it or attack it when its completed. Same shit Russian pulled with MH17 and chemical attacks in Syria, very predictable.
Reporter: Will Stephen Miller be apologizing to the family of Alex Pretti for calling him an assassin?

Leavitt: This incident remains under investigation.

How to show you don’t know what you are talking about: Claim someone using Apple’s PDF rendering engine first, then swsitching to PDFium was "solving" PDF rendering.
For anyone wondering what AI means for devs:

Pre-AI, @steipete.me was one of the single most productive devs solving a very hard problem: PDF rendering

Post-AI, he's again one of the single most productive devs solving a very hard problem: building the next-gen Siri (aka Clawdbot)

I’ve got a bunch of former colleagues who will have to travel to the US soon, and it’s basically because the startup doesn’t want to inconvenience the US Sales & Support team with overseas travel. So the whole R&D can go to the US on an adventure.

Second time they do this. 😬
