You can’t really “disagree” with a perspective unless you understand it, and you can’t understand it unless you can argue persuasively for it. If you don’t, that’s not disagreement, that’s prejudice.

Why does any immigrant community congregate in one place or another in America? Because that's where the jobs and opportunities were when they arrived. That's as true for Somalis as it was for Scandinavians in the mid 19th century.
How Minnesota became the center of the Somali diaspora
Minnesota is home to more than 80,000 ethnic Somalis, the largest community outside of Africa.

The loss of local news media is not just a problem because it makes it harder for people to understand local issues in context. In the absence of context, people experience local problems as a consequence of national politics.

The reason pretty much all European Americans are here is because our ancestors came from countries that were "shitholes" at the time. They were, by and large, refugees fleeing war, famine, and persecution. A lot of them were criminals or declared enemies of the states they left.

Me: “Because Minneapolis and Saint Paul can’t share and it will be a cold day in hell before either let the other have it.”

Every American conservative perspective eventually just devolves into, “You just don’t understand my argument.”

We should assemble fans of Welcome to Night Vale to follow ICE around pointing and gravely intoning, “Interloper.”

Why I would make a lousy politician: (Knocks door) “I’m a policy and political junky and would hate this job. Please don’t vote for me. I will represent you if I have to. Have a good day.”

Donald Trump’s approval rating has tanked and Republican suffered heavy losses in last week’s elections. There’s never been a better time for Senate Democrats to cave on the ACA extension.

What the hell do you think you’re doing, @schumer.senate.gov? Are you seriously arranging another surrender when you have leverage? Please resign. You have proven again and again that you are not up to the critical role of leading the opposition party when the country needs it most.

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Most political journalists are preoccupied with the election results, but there's something really interesting going on within the right wing echo chamber. Tucker Carlson's interview with Nick Fuentes has resulted in a heated debate about whether and how to denounce them.

Somehow, I had not heard of Christopher Buehlman's *The Lesser Dead* and picked it up on a whim after finishing *Buffalo Hunter Hunter* by Stephen Graham Jones where he mentions being inspired by the former in the epilogue.
