Misinformation around rezoning runs rampant in local discourse. In this case, Marblehead residents use images of a 150 unit/acre building to rile up opposition to MBTA Communities.

…in reality, Marblehead rezoning at 15 units/acre would only allow buildings like those on the right.

We’ve got a friend in Wisconsin who said she wasn’t worried about potential cuts to Medicaid because she and her 3 kids don’t need it - they’re on BadgerCare. She was stunned when I told her they were all on Medicaid.

Protecting people from shame by renaming MA has definite downsides.
Why haven't we seen more backlash against the GOP's proposed cuts to Medicaid? One reason is that people may not know they're on Medicaid, because Medicaid has different names in different states (see 🧵). Another is that some people may not realize that they (or their kids) could qualify.
Many Medicaid recipients do not know they receive it because Medicaid is called different things in different states. The public narrative of Medicaid focuses on a distant other, but 40% of US children and 60% of nursing home residents receive Medicaid. Just SOME of the names by state are below:

Housing is consistently polling as the most important issue among voters in most states, including Massachusetts.

The best time to implement needed policy reforms was 50-years ago. The next best time is today. Let’s get to work!

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?

Keep an eye out for openings on your local planning and zoning boards as well.

Many of them are appointed and have trouble finding enough volunteers to fill the seats! 🇺🇸
It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

The US DOT says it's planning to prioritize areas with high marriage & high birth rates for funding.

Our new analysis @urbaninstitute.bsky.social shows this would disproportionately fund:
—Communities with a higher white resident share
—Low-density areas
—High-income areas
—Car-dependent areas
DOT’s Plan to Distribute Funding by Birth and Marriage Rates Would Leave Communities Most In Need Behind
If enacted, the new US Department of Transportation memo would prioritize funding to whiter, higher-income, more car-dependent areas over communities of color and people who walk, bike, or take public...

a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job

It’s day of the zebra! 🦓 A day dedicated to raising awareness around #EDS. EDS affects my life everyday, from wearing ankle/knee braces to being very careful with how I move my body to prevent injury. People with disabilities are everywhere, even if you can’t see them, and we aren’t going anywhere.

We learned that navigating the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher process is riddled with information gaps.

So, we reported a crowdsourced (and deeply-vetted) guide on how to get through the system, and also made it available in Spanish.

What You Need to Know About How Section 8 Really Works
Based on our reporting, we created a guide to the Section 8 program. You’ll learn how to apply, how to qualify for a voucher and what it’s like to live in Section 8 housing.
