Five years ago tonight my dad died, two days into the second lockdown. Like so many Covid deaths his could have been avoided but for the sheer ineptitude and callousness of Johnson’s government.
They caused so much heartbreak.

I love you dad, I wish you were still with us xx

One of my cats is hiding outside somewhere due to what can only be described as a recreation of the battle of the Somme going on in the neighbourhood.
I hate fireworks, I really do.

Adam and the Ants released their Kings of the Wild Frontier album 45 years ago today (according to @whatafuckingrecord.bsky.social) and it's also Adam's birthday today. To celebrate, here's a live performance of the title track filmed in Manchester in 1980

Only slightly drenched from the walk…woman in the shop gave me a free Freddo and said I had a nice face, which made this rum-looking cove smile.

A lovely afternoon with friends in my favourite café in town…one of those places that hasn’t changed AT ALL since I started going there in the late 80s. Today I drank loads of Earl Grey and had Pea and potato soup with garlic bread. And I bought some records at Probe and a book. A good day.

If you're a National Trust member, it's that time of year again: Midnight tonight is the deadline. It's a shame people have to keep doing this to keep a toehold on historical truth in this country, but here we are. Voting link: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/a...

I’m not a drinker (last drink was Christmas)…not a big fan of feeling rubbish in the morning, but I can’t shift this sodding cold and my basic medical training* says that a couple of rums might do the trick. Chin chin!

Wonderful film: not only a reminder of a great football talent, but a homage to community and humility, qualities very much in short supply in the football world and indeed in society at large, today. Terrific montage sequences as ever from the director - funny, nostalgic and genuinely moving.
KENNY DALGLISH
In an era lacking decent, honest, people in positions of power, a film about a good man, who stood up for ordinary people with humility, integrity, humour, compassion & love, for his family, teammates & the people of Liverpool.
And could he play!!
