Read history. Oligarchs have owned and controlled our government before. They’ve attacked oppressed groups, gone after migrants, and enacted mass violence against workers who dared resist. But people kept fighting. They organized. They built power. What we need to do is not unprecedented.

“Unfortunately, troubling recent events suggest that some administrations are … engaging in what scholars of authoritarianism call anticipatory obedience—that is, they are acting to comply in advance of any pressure to do so.”

Absolutely true.

Not taking accountability, and throwing everyone else under the bus is this man’s legacy… so this is pretty on point

I definitely have zero interest in voting for nothingburger centrists… what passes for leftist politicians keep moving right in an attempt to gain votes they will never win and, in the process, lose the voter base they once had
There is a lesson for Singh and the NDP. People would rather vote for a party running on genuine principles, even ones far outside the mainstream, than nothingburger centrists.

It's time for the NDP to run on actual socialism, especially given that it speaks to the real issues they're facing.
Pierre Poilievre says Canadians are too obsessed with race because of “wokeism” and agrees with Jordan Peterson that Canada essentially had to invent and import racism because it didn’t exist here before recent decades.

Canada is so fucked if this guy forms government.

As a disabled web accessibility practitioner. This pisses me off. Extremely.

GENERATIVE AI DOES NOT AND CANNOT EVER REPRESENT DISABLED PEOPLE.

Just fucking hire disabled people like me who know what they're doing.

Believing AI over disabled people is ABLEISM and DEHUMANIZING. For fucks sake.

Every. Time. And still so much resistance to something that is wildly effective.
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Abortion bans are forms of state sponsored femicide - and it’s usually racialized, impoverished women who are most impacted.
NEW: Porsha Ngumezi is the fifth case we've reported on in which a woman died after not receiving a D&C or its second-trimester equivalent in time, or at all.

Her case raises questions about how abortion bans are pressuring doctors to avoid standard care even in straightforward miscarriages.

Mass student strike happening in #Montreal at Concordia university. After a vote, students have voted to go on strike to demand divestment from the state of Israel by the university. In the 1980s, similar struggles helped push for divestment from apartheid South Africa.
They filled the lobby before marching to every floor, disrupting classes.

Behind them, boarded up windows can be seen. These were smashed during a demo in late September that reportedly caused $600,000 in damages to the university, which has refused to divest from Israeli apartheid and genocide.
