It is said that nothing lasts forever, and often that is cause for sorrow and regret. But take heart, for it also applies to the reign of despots, to tyranny. They too cannot last forever, so let us usher in their end, let us outlast them.

Your enemies will tell you there is no point in fighting back. They tell you this to break your morale, but in so doing, they tell on themselves. They fear being stood up to, or else they would not work so hard to downplay it. If someone says fighting back doesn't matter, make it matter.

When I read this first, well over a decade ago, it was a curiosity but it also makes you wonder what not just what people you know would do, but what you would do - because can you really know until the moment arrives.

Now it is here and I suppose we know.
Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

The Jacobin article structure:

1. BADASS RADICAL TITLE.
2. Author backs down from title, says he means something more nuanced.
3. Or does he? Author doubles down on badass title.
4. All obstacles waved away.
5. Socialist paradise achieved.

This is the line from the horrific SCOTUS decision today that will stick with me. “Sure, the president should follow the law - but the courts can’t force him to do it.” Rendering the Constitution a dead letter if the president decides he’d rather not deal with it.
