"Who shapes climate policy and who benefits?" - such a simple but powerful question could reorient the decisions we make.
Who are UN climate talks really serving? 🤔
What we see:
🚩 Big polluters as sponsors
🚩 Fossil fuel executives in presidency teams
🚩 Multinationals included in negotiation
🚩 Fossil fuel phase-out missing from the agenda
🚩 Spotlight on corporate-driven "solutions" e.g. carbon offsets
#COP30 (1/3)

This "no" is not negotiable. A Guatemalan court ordered the government to consult with the Xinka People over the future of Pan American Silver's Escobal mine. This May, the Xinka People said no to the reopening of the mine and called for it to be closed permanently.

while we, civil society, call for change, often our calls are for incremental tweaks to the system, which can actually reinforce it.
And make us, at times, part of the problem.
But we can do more, and better.

Having supported communities harmed by Socfin, the investigation results are shocking but not surprising. What is surprising is that Socfin is going to determine if and how it will remedy the violations it has caused without input or oversight by the communities harmed.
A two-year investigation into 139 complaints by affected communities against Socfin group's oil palm and rubber plantations worldwide have been vindicated by the group's own paid consultant. The investigation shows Socfin/Bolloré plantations harm communities in Africa and Asia. grain.org/e/7286
