In my forthcoming book, "Ripples on the Cosmic Ocean," I show that what happens in space matters on Earth—and what happens on Earth increasingly matters in space. In this interview with Harvard University Press, I reflect on the implications of that idea. #EnvHist www.hup.harvard.edu/features/the...

So glad to see @jordanscarroll.bsky.social get the Hugo Award.

Have spent the past year screaming at people and demanding that they read it. Deserves to be read. So relevant.
Some may claim racism has no place in science fiction, but sadly SF has a long history of enabling fascist worldbuilding

That's why you need to read @jordanscarroll.bsky.social's "Speculative Whiteness," a first-rate takedown of racist subtext in sci-fi

I absolutely am so sorry that I misspoke. It is indeed Marie Brennan! And she gave a great acceptance speech. (Mari also had an amazing poem up for the award). I am hopeful this will be the first of many poetry awards.
@mariness.bsky.social just won the first ever Hugo award for poetry! As a former ELL teacher, one of the things I have learned to care deeply about is the ways colonialism damaged generations to come via language death and the ways we can revitalize language. I'm excited for this win.

I was lucky enough to go through the Publishing Diploma in 2019. it was an amazing experience. I was able to see Lift education, PANZ, and Upstart Press up close as part of the program. It’s also opened up some amazing opportunities for me.

Incredibly important report on AI training & copyright released today by the European Commission. It gets lots right, slamming the idea that creators should be required to opt-out of having their works used for free by AI companies.

It says:

- Generative AI must be based on opt-in consent

Sapients, behold: we've added an extra digit! Escape Pod episode ONE THOUSAND! Today we bring you "A Thousand Names for God and Infinite Mustard" by @mattfnwallace.bsky.social, a story about the age-old theme of finding God and what we're going to do to him once we find him.
Escape Pod 1000: A Thousand Names for God and Infinite Mustard
Kimo found God hiding out inside a dark nebula in the MACS0416_Y1 galaxy. He trapped God in an empty mason jar and duct taped the lid shut. God was not happy about any of it. “I wasn’t ‘hiding out.’”…

Listening to Dr Michelle Thaller at the @nzscifest.bsky.social launch and she's making us cry. We *all* contain atoms from millions of stars that died and released their whole selves back into the universe.
