Oh, I don’t know. Our rivers no longer catch on fire and our air is far less poisonous than it used to be, even in smog bowls like Los Angeles. And I think those are good things.
If there’s no shale gas then there’s no shale gas, but I still think environmentalism is basically bad and politicians should focus more on material prosperity.

In a win for polluters, the Trump regime proposed a rule to limit the EPA’s authority to regulate pollution in wetlands and waterways. This would strip federal protections from 55 million acres of wetlands (85% of all wetlands nationwide!), threatening lots of people's drinking water.

See that Rolex clock and gold bar?

It looks like those Swiss gifts paid off.

Trump cut tariffs on Swiss goods — like luxury watches — from 39% to 15%.

While Trump’s tariffs increase prices for Americans, billionaire CEOs and foreign companies sucking up to Trump get relief.

UVA president Jim Ryan resigned after sleazy, opaque machinations from only three right-wing board members. There was no board meeting or conversation about DoJ threats or Jim resigning. The whole saga is outlined in a memo Jim just released.

They got rid of the public editor saying that social media would hold them accountable instead. So, uh, hey @nytimes.com... 'sup?
Stop me if you've heard this before:

If the NYT still had a public editor, that person would have official standing to ask, WTF???

They axed the public editor. So it's up to the rest of us to ask, unofficially, WTF???
To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

My god (sorry I’m late on a bunch of this stuff. But wow!)

According to this NYT report, the head of the FBI and the Attorney General are holding meetings *in the Situation Room* with GOP lawmakers they are trying to pressure to rescind their votes to release the Epstein info. This is madness.

The message from Dems the rest of the year should be simple: Trump must resign over Epstein
"House Democrats on Wednesday released emails in which Jeffrey Epstein wrote that President Trump had “spent hours at my house” with one of Epstein’s victims, among other messages that suggested that the convicted sex offender believed Mr. Trump knew more about his abuse than he has acknowledged."

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Both of these premises are questionable. (This is a district which has been represented by a Democrat for twenty-six of the last thirty years.)
I mean, yes, misguided progressive criticism of Golden has driven him from office and now Republicans are going to win the seat. According to me, that’s bad.

I see everyone getting incredibly mad about this but… this is basically what the Dems have been asking for the entire time

it’s a bad deal for the Dems! it’s super easy to say yes to! and we are over a month into a shutdown anyway because the response has been “you get nothing, good day sir”
SCHUMER is on the floor now making this offer to end the shutdown:

Clean CR
Bipartisan "minibus" of approps bills
1-year ACA funding extension
Bipartisan cmte to negotiate on health care

"This is a reasonable offer that reopens the government, deals with health care affordability."

This agreement maintains that Cornell has full autonomy. Cornell also maintains that it has not done anything wrong.

So, essentially, Trump used the power of his office (e.g. by not paying ongoing grants) to force a $30 million payout.

I understand why Cornell did this, but it doesn't feel good.
Breaking News: Cornell University reached an agreement with the Trump administration that would restore hundreds of millions in funding to the university. It's expected to pay a $30 million fine to the government and to invest $30 million in agriculture and farming programs.
