It’s clear that the city does not value the Bicycle Weekends program, and this is a slap in the face to everyone trying to enjoy one of Southeast Seattle’s best parks through walking, biking, and rolling. We’re trying to get to the bottom of this, but it stinks really bad

What I woke up to this morning. @cmsaranelson.bsky.social @councilmember-amr.bsky.social @cmmarksolomon.bsky.social how many collisions, injuries, and deaths are necessary before Seattle gets serious about excessive speed on MLK? We need urgent action to slow drivers.

I was going to post about how amazing it was that I can now ride from Beacon Hill to South Park to Georgetown to downtown almost entirely in PBLs. But instead I’ll post this picture of a guy who smashed into the bike lane seconds after I rolled through:

Friday morning we lost a neighbor & 2 people were injured, all due to traffic violence & probably speeding.

MLK Way here is signed 25 mph speed limit, so a driver-pedestrian crash shouldn’t be so deadly, & a secondary driver-driver crash shouldn’t happen.

Speed kills.

This is the consequence of not following through on traffic safety. We hope that Bradley recovers fully and that the driver comes forward and takes responsibility for their actions.

Meanwhile the City Council Transportation Committee got a presentation on "what is a pothole?"

Throwing away years of outreach and expert advice from SDOT is a huge mistake for creating a safe park environment on Lake Washington Blvd. We’re mad, and we’re going to continue to fight for a safer Lake Washington Blvd

This change in plans without transparency or explanation is a slap in the face to neighbors who advocated for safety improvements over 5+ years. We will get to the bottom of this.

In the meantime, please contact our city reps & tell them we need safer Lake WA Blvd:

It’s painful to see this happen once but infuriating to see this continue to happen. We have so many neighbors present & future who need this road to be safe!

Sickening and heartbreaking. My thoughts are with this person and their friends, family, and communities.

SE Seattle deserves safe streets. MLK Way is one of the top five most dangerous streets in the city, and must be made safer.
We are sad to learn via victims’ daughter that one victim died Sunday from head injuries & other has a spinal fracture.

This crash was a foolish driver running a red, hitting 2 people walking in a crosswalk with the light, & driving away without stopping.

We need to end traffic violence everywhere
Approximately one hour ago, Seattle Fire responded to a driver hitting TWO people on bikes at MLK Jr Way S and S Alaska Street.

Both people who were hit were transported to the hospital, one with more significant injuries.

This was a hit-and-run involving a driver on a motorcycle.
