Sailing as slow as I can and a constant garden editor. And still managing long tail post WWII marine insurance liabilities.
Every time you read something like this, the first two words that you come to your mind are ‘for now’.
cool that the official position of the administration appears to be that black people don’t really count as americans
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."

The truth is Trump failed at being a Manhattan insider. He was always on the outside using his ‘methods’ to get what he wanted.
And Trump likely sees in Mamdani what he always wanted himself: to go from being a Queens outsider to a Manhattan insider. (2/2)

Pure FAFO. Pure, sweet schadenfreude.
We need to see what SCOTUS ends up doing, but California went to the voters on this and they overwhelmingly approved.

This seems like almost the definition of FAFO...

Perhaps the AI unemployed can use their quiet time to make sure they’re registered to vote.
Kevin Hassett: "I think there could be a little bit of an almost quiet time in the labor market, because firms are finding that AI is making their workers so productive that they don't necessarily have to hire the new kids out of college and so on."

Not a very big cabin, but everything seems to fall readily to hand. Another watch below with a brisk Northwesterly and an emptying Bay.

Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

Am I wrong in thinking that John Thune is going to play Lucy to Schumer’s Charlie Brown with the ACA football?

Our neighborhood in 1705. We live on the bank of that tiny tidal lake under the M in Manasquan. Note the map is upside down with north at the bottom. Thanks Kent for the scan.

Expect the worst. Period.
Honestly the full-body disgust and horror I felt the first time I saw a post from that man, went to block who I had assumed was a random racist asshole of no consequence, and saw he was a former Gorsuch clerk and Grassley's Chief Counsel for nominations and now advises Trump on judicial nominations
May I present a former clerk to Justice Gorsuch.

Watch. If you claim one of these to get a vaccine, they’ll use it later as a preexisting condition to crank up your health premium or kick you off your plan.
Hang onto this image of CDC's full list of underlying conditions tied to severe risk of COVID.

If you're an adult aged 18-64, RFK Jr. is now making you show some proof of one of these underlying conditions in order to get a COVID vaccine.

Here’s a video of SPARTINA under sail. Turning out to be a very useful small boat.

Here’s a nice group of wooden boats. That’s SJOGIN in the center out for her mid-summer refit. You can just make out the new garvey in the pit.

From HCR today: “Just to be clear: The director of national intelligence for the United States of America is making allegations against a former U.S. presidential candidate based on material from Russia’s intelligence services.” we are going to need a bigger Leavenworth.

SPARTINA’s first sail on Barnegat Bay. There’s nothing like a long running daydream made flesh.

Thanks to all involved, foremost my Chief Enabler Julia D'amato. You’ll see her driving SPARTINA very soon.

A brilliant paraphrase of Shakespeare, by the always clever Paul Krugman this morning.

“But it’s beginning to look as if there’s more basic decency in the American body politic than is dreamed of in many pundits’ political philosophy.”

it's so cool that everyone has just completely forgotten that the President doesn't have any legal authority to set US tariff rates

we're like six months into an illegal tax regime being set by imperial decree and everyone's treating it like a totally legitimate thing

Well, worth your time.
I think the Senator is correct on this. As I said on the show today, I think Jackson’s dissents have the vibe of Blackmun throwing up his hands and saying “I will no longer tinker with the machinery of death,” because it’s a moral and intellectual charade.
What's up with Justice Jackson? She started making her mark and speaking out early, and some of her dissents are so pointed Kagan and Sotomayor don’t even join them. The far right is out for her, and even Republican justices are getting snarky.

So what's up? Here’s my take 🧵

Tomorrow, perhaps in the morning when it’s quiet, after you’ve hung the flag and read the Declaration of Independence, you might want to read this from Michael Luttig. Chilling and a call to Action.
