This is a corporate attempt to put an end to climate protest and *particularly* to Indigenous led climate protest. Massive 1A assault. Pretty shocking that our little outlet was one of maybe 3 or 4 that had a reporter there every day of the trial (one of the others was a fake newspaper 🙃)
Verdict in on energy transfer v greenpeace.

Jury found Greenpeace Inc guilty on almost all counts. ET lawyer estimated total damages for Inc, Fund and International around $700 million. (Total still to be confirmed)

🚨BREAKING🚨

The trial verdict is in. A jury in the Morton County courthouse found Greenpeace International and two Greenpeace entities in the United States liable for over US$ 660 million combined in Energy Transfer’s meritless SLAPP lawsuit.

As I sit here covering this Energy Transfer lawsuit against Greenpeace, Pennsylvania is forcing the company to supply bottled water to a community after a pipeline leaked jet fuel for 16 MONTHS before anyone figured it out.

Sunoco ordered to supply homes with bottled water and filtration systems in the wake of jet fuel spill
It must begin supplying bottled water within five days to homes with wells in the Mt. Eyre section of Upper Makefield, Bucks County, plus others within a 500-foot buffer.

I think we should take this story from the Times today (and picked up by many other outlets) with an enormous pinch of salt for two reason (mini thread):

Two of Europe's worst greenwashing oil and gas companies - shell and Equinor - are amputating their UK facilities and combining them into an entirely new fossil fuel company.

EquiShell gives both companies way more power and makes profiting from harm significantly easier

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

Your daily reminder that CCS sounds like a good idea until you learn about it.
There are more Carbon Capture and Storage lobbyists at #COP29 than even well-resourced delegations like USA or Canada

As was said of the need for subsidy for underperforming technology:
“Winners pick markets, losers pick governments’

Almost 500 carbon capture lobbyists granted access to Cop29 climate summit
More lobbyists for the controversial technology were present this year, despite debate about its viability
