That guy Hassett must be some kind of genius. His observations on the forever mortgage are brilliant. He must have had an uncle or two who taught at MIT.
Kevin Hassett: "The 50 year mortgage is just one of many many policies that are currently being studied ... the argument for it is that it would really lower the monthly payment. The downside is it would take longer to build equity in the home."

Maybe it’s just the Humanities professor in me, but let it be noted that events of today (ahem) have demonstrated the value of being able to assess a large volume of qualitative data and do careful textual analysis with deep attention to context.

Is there any way to keep undergraduates from beginning all emails to professor types by expressing their wishes for the professor’s health, well being, and contentment? That boilerplate sacrifices many innocent electrons.

People focused on the release of the Epstein files usually think in terms of documents. But the really dispositive material may not be documents, but the trove of videos that FBI seized from Epstein’s mansion. Release the videos.

That Thune was able to sneak that self-dealing provision into the bill that passed means Democratic Senators or thru staffers should take some remedial reading lessons. Do your job.
GOP Senators self-dealing $500,000 lawsuit was snuck into the bill by Sen Thune.

"The bill provides for $500,000 in damages for EACH VIOLATION."

The worst of the worst GOP senators:
Lindsey Graham
Bill Hagerty
Josh Hawley
Dan Sullivan
Tommy Tuberville
Ron Johnson
Cynthia Lummis
Marsha Blackburn
House Republicans Hate A Major Provision In The Bill to Reopen The Government
"What they did is wrong," one House Republican said of the provision, adding it would never pass on its own.

Lies like this aren’t just about numbers they’re about narratives. When Trump stands in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and brags about a 92% approval rating, it’s not just false it’s offensive.

In 1983 the United States’ operation “Urgent Fury”, defeated Granada (population about the same as Worcester MA) in just eight days. I’m sure that we’ll have a similar quick, easy win in Venezuela. All we need is a name as cool as “Urgent Fury.”

The cowardly Senators all have talked public to justify their vote, but not one has mentioned this provision of the bill. It’s almost as though they did not read the bill and did not know what they were voting for. Gasp.
There is always a grift with the republicans…
Raskin: If this were to pass, this astounding provision would give eight Republican senators a personal payday of at least a million dollars each, paid for by the U.S. Taxpayers at a time when we are throwing millions of people off of their health care…

A 50-year mortgage isn’t a solution—it’s economic servitude. Landlords and developers gutted the housing market, turned shelter into a luxury, & now tell us to work till death for the privilege of paying them forever. That’s not stability that’s modern feudalism with better branding. #Pinks #Momsky
