One of my favorite Nature-Based Solutions is the forest of the Panama Canal.

Have you ever looked at the Panama Canal from a satellite or land cover map?

There is a 7-km forest buffer around the canal.
Just a coincidence?
No.

One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back.

Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance.

Be a housing fan.

Better late than never?
20 years after CA High Speed Rail began their environmental impact process, and less than 6 months before they finalize it, the state legislature has exempted high-speed rail from CEQA.
"After weeks of tense negotiations with Gov. Gavin Newsom, California lawmakers on Monday passed two controversial bills that promise to make big changes to the state’s landmark environmental law to boost housing and clean energy projects."

The bill the Senate is voting on right now would reduce US power generation through 2035 by 300GW, raise wholesale & retail power prices, increase household energy costs, reduce national GDP, & kill 100s of 1000s of jobs.

I mean, this isn't "public grocery store" bad, but it's pretty bad!

The Senate's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" will cost America 300GW of new power, $960 billion in GDP, and 770,000 lost jobs.

Trump’s all-out assault on California continues, and this time he’s destroying our public health and America’s global competitiveness in the process.

Last week, Montana voted to:
- legalize 6-story apartments on most commercial land
- sharply cut multifamily parking mandates

- cut condo defect liability

If the Blue State housing deniers are correct, this will lead to:

-Displacement
-Rising rents
-Drivers circling for parking
-Increased deaths in home fires

I think they are wrong, but we'll probably find out before California adopts any of these policies.

California needs a lot more housing & we should prioritize housing near high-quality transit.

I’m authoring legislation to do just that. SB 79 authorizes denser housing by our highest quality transit. It’ll help transit systems succeed, reduce carbon emissions & create more sustainable communities.
Senate Bill 79 will legalize more housing near transit across California
It’s time to end this practice of banning new homes in areas where we are making massive public transit investments.

It would be a matter of personal *honor* to resign. The fact Mike Waltz & Pete Hegseth are choosing to fight it out is a terrible omen.
