My financial advisor said all but one of his CDC clients have retired. Most weren’t planning on it, but couldn’t deal with the atmosphere.

🧵1/ BIG NEWS!! CDC just dropped a landmark report — the first US data on RSV hospitalizations after rollout of the maternal vaccine and infant antibody. What happened? Hospitalizations in babies under 3 months fell nearly 50% vs pre-pandemic years. Quietly, radically effective.

Story time. Have you ever wondered why the CDC is headquartered in Atlanta? The answer in one word: MALARIA. CDC started to prevent the spread of malaria, so we went where the mosquitoes were.

Now, the division that houses our founding mission has an uncertain future.

Racism is when you believe a white guy is innocent after a jury has concluded 34 times that he isn’t, and you immediately decide an immigrant is guilty when the immigrant hasn’t even had a chance to present their defense.

Not only does this suck overall, but screwing over people already in the system by moving the goal posts?

When compared to jobs that also exist in the private sector, feds make 10-20% less. The benefit is what keeps good people serving our country.

Pressure your Republican reps not to do it.
House Republicans advance plan to cut federal worker benefits and undermine civil service protections
One Republican who voted against the measure said efforts to reduce existing federal workers’ pension benefits will fail if put to a vote before the full House.

Just before May Day, Congress gave federal workers the finger. 🖕The House Oversight Committee voted to slash our benefits: higher retirement contributions/ reduce take-home pay, smaller pensions, weaker job protections. It’s not law yet—final vote likely in July. 😡Thread with details ⬇️

RFKJ is saying that all “new vaccines” should be tested in clinical trials. Specifically, placebo trials (where the comparison group gets a “sugar pill”). It sounds reasonable to test new vaccines right? Well here’s the issue with this approach:

Oh sure. This is such a great idea, she says sarcastically.
The Integrated Research Facility “conducts research on the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases that are deemed ‘high consequence’—those that pose significant risks to public health.”

Cool, cool, what could go wrong?

This is one of the worst violations of research ethics I've ever seen. Manipulating people in online communities using deception, without consent, is not "low risk" and, as evidenced by the discourse in this Reddit post, resulted in harm.

Great thread from Sarah, and I have additional thoughts. 🧵
The mods of r/ChangeMyView shared the sub was the subject of a study to test the persuasiveness of LLMs & that they didn't consent. There’s a lot that went wrong, so here’s a 🧵 unpacking it, along with some ideas for how to do research with online communities ethically. tinyurl.com/59tpt988
