When people say vaccination is a personal choice, it makes me wonder if they understand infectious disease. Getting a mammogram or a colonoscopy is a personal decision because your decision affects only you. When you don't vaccinate, you run the risk of infecting/harming/killing other people.

I remember how the Romanian dictator Ceaușescu liked to go bear-hunting. So in the days before the hunting trip, lots of bears would be shot and hidden in the forest. Whenever the old idiot fired his rifle, they'd bring out a dead bear and tell him he killed it. His people ended up executing him.

We’re only two months in, & they’re cancelling research into pediatric brain cancer. They’re deporting US kids with brain cancer. They’re putting millions at risk of malaria, TB, & polio.

Transgenic means that genes from 1 organism have been put into another. We make transgenic mice to understand how genes influence biological processes. We make transgenic plants to make them more nutrient rich. We make transgenic bacteria so they make medicine for us. It's wide-ranging & v. useful.

There are eight living species of pelican and ours are, naturally, Australian pelicans (Pelecanus conspicillatus).
