Wow. This is a very insightful essay. It illustrates one of the many layers of meaning in It's A Wonderful Life. I'm glad I read it before watching it tonight, as I do every year.

In memory of Rob Reiner I watched The American President last night. It's a lovely, rather idealistic view of what a competent, conscientious president & presidency would be like – with romance. Thirty years old and still holds up.

My daughters are coming to visit for Christmas next week. I think it'll be The Princess Bride for movie night this year.
In the meantime, I think I'll re-watch The American President. Because I crave the fantasy of a caring, competent, human president. And Michael J Fox yelling "I'm a citizen!"
