Maritime Canadian in Italy. Politics, IT Security, music, bicycling, not necessarily in that order. Who am I kidding, this will just be a bunch of dad jokes
I gave up on baseball--and by extension the Jays--around the time Jesse Barfield and/or Tony Fernández retired so in that respect I really don't give a shit who wins the series, but on the other hand the Dodgers and by extension all of the USA can go suck it so OK Blue Jays let's kick ass

Fun fact: the English phrase "Greatest Of All Time" or GOAT for short translates to Italian as "Che Articolo Piu Riconosciuto Alto" or CAPRA for short. Don't bother fact checking me just accept this as a cross-linguistic truth

More than 23 years after my first visit to Firenze, when I showed up to the Uffizi first thing in the morning & saw a mile long line and decided "Nope", I finally paid a visit. Breathtaking all around, but my favorite work hanging on the wall was this statement of everyone's current mood

I'm very much antifascist but I haven't actually officially joined antifa. Does that still make me a terrorist in the eyes of US law, and if so should I just make it official and pay the annual antifa membership dues?

Happy International Flag Burning Day to all those who celebrate

Yesterday morning Little Honda randomly popped into my head, hours before I heard the news about Brian Wilson. I'm not a particularly spiritual person, nor is it my fav Beach Boys song, but I choose to believe that Brian picked it as his theme to ride off into the sunset, cool as ever

Folks at work are gently ribbing me about the smoke settling over Europe from the Canadian wildfires, and I gotta know, which South Park move reference do I make? Blame Canada? Asses of Fire? (What Would Brian Orser do is definitely an outlier, sorry bud

Neither Trump nor Musk are capable of 4D chess. Trump is playing Hungry Hippos (pure greed & instinct), Musk is paying someone else to play Diablo 4 (power hungry & no inate talent) But Putin might be playing 4D chess and he controls both of them. What is Putin getting out of this whole drama scene?

Me describing Aerosmith after seeing a picture of of them in the 80s: There's one guy who thinks he's sexy, one guy who is actually sexy, and three guys who are just happy to be there.

J: you just described every band

Does anyone else get the feeling that on the one day Trump didn't cut class in university they happened to be talking about tariffs and from that point forward he concluded that "economics" = "tariffs"

Amber (and me, and literally everyone else who knows this is absolute bullshit) says "Whaaaat?!?!"
Breaking: The White House Correspondents' Association is reversing course and canceling its plans to have comedian Amber Ruffin headline this year's annual fundraising dinner in DC.

The entire US intelligence community owes a debt of gratitude towards Goldberg. He exposed a massive security breach, held off publishing until safe to do so, and redacted details he knew to be too sensitive. In short, a model of ethical journalism. So of course Trump calls him names
Trump suggests Jeffrey Goldberg hacked the Signal group or something: "The person that was on just happens to be a sleazebag, so maybe that's just coincidence. I don't know ... he's basically bad for the country."

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

One of the worst things about the USA right now is how pro-gun rah rah 2nd Amendment they have been for years, abusing the original intent of the law until it's almost unrecognizable.

And now, in the face of *actual tyranny* they're too chickenshit to do literally anything about it

Italy has a lot of fantastic cheeses, but sometimes you just want a nice sharp cheddar--as basic as that may be--which is not typically a thing around here. So when the local IperCoop not only starts carrying a decent cheddar but then puts it on sale? You know I'm all in.

Listening to Badmotorfinger for the first time in decades and okay still a legendary album but was it always this slow? Whenever a song from it pops into my mental dialog it's borderline speedmetal frantic and not the slow menacing march that it apparently is. Not sure which version I prefer

Look at it this way: this person is facing persecution, intolerance, and backlash from within for who they are and they *still* want to serve? That's who I want fighting next to me every time
good piece. I think the perspective of this guy--feeling awkward and uncomfortable with trans issues but coming around when meeting them personally--describes a lot of people www.thebulwark.com/p/transgende...

The problem is people in high office who can’t recognize bravery, patriotism, and sacrifice.

@adambarrett.bsky.social speaking of rippers even Justin Hawkins admits that the next Darkness album won't fall in that category. Will probably still listen to it a few times tho

I know very little about German politics, but the fact that AfD looks to be getting about 20% of the seats in government is a really scary thing. Die Linke is on the board in a distant fifth and I hope they trend upwards as the evening goes on because they rock

Guys, "Our hockey team can beat up your hockey team" is a shitty strategy for maintaining national sovereignty. If we're going to keep this great country of ours we'll need to come up with better strategies.

But counterpoint, suck it American hockey goon squad.
