Has HCR gotten that bad in the past two years?! I used to bike the Herring Cove--Purcells Cove loop on the regular for a shortish workout ride, and the hill was a chore but I never thought the route to be particularly unsafe

Anecdotal aside, both my grad level math courses in PDEs and symmetric positive definite matrices were cross-listed as engineering courses. The PDEs class was 50% engineering grads, the SPD class was 0%. Again anecdotal, but just maybe we have different ideas of what constitutes "advanced" algebra

Okay congratulations to you, my own experience was that doing numerical solutions of partial differential equations was pretty damn easy, but working out ways of efficiently solving the M matrices that arise out of the discretization of the problem? Now that was hard

I agree with your sentiment in general, but I am also confident that you've never taken an advanced algebra class or you would be acutely aware of how challenging the subject is
