Anyone watching my feeds and seeing old content (~2hrs), they have been affected by some internal Bluesky issues. AFAICT it is affecting all the feeds I follow (other than Blacksky, shoutout to those guys). It seems to be coming back and should catch up soon.

I just cancelled our HBO/Disney/Hulu with the following:

"I am appalled by the reaction at ABC/Disney to the FCC's unconstitutional threat over the Jimmy Kimmel show. I support your creator's rights to free speech and if you respected the content you put on these platforms, you would too."
Boycott Disney.

This but for all business really.
Something about the Kimmel (and Colbert) firing that more people need to be paying attention to: this would not be happening if we did not have extensive media consolidation, and because the *failure* to independently regulate that consolidation has undermined free market competition

Let me explain

Exactly this. And it is important to overwhelm their systems before they're up and running. The corollary to "courage is contagious" is that everyone has to stand up *early*, not wait for others to go first. The sooner everyone demonstrates that their machine can't possibly do this, the better.
Look, they do not have the capacity or competence to do this at the scale they want you to fear they do, and your fear is precisely their greatest force multiplier. Everybody who is cowed into silence by their threats allows them a smaller pool to focus on.

Politicians shitposting is a political dead-end for the same reason why a Rogan of left is impossible. Left politics cannot flow from cults of personality because it comes from serious consideration of politics, valuing every human, and clear support for collective action.

I feel uneasy when people are discouraged, even lightly, from the one tool they have. "Nation state" of disparate factions is how companies protect themselves from backlash. Investigative reporters, Cooking, and Wordle all exist to give different people pause when hovering over the "Cancel" button.
Anyway, the lesson here is maybe don't cancel your NYT sub because it won't do what you think but, if you do, move it over to a news coop organization.

There really is something special about what Zohran and Brad are showing the rest of the world what it still means to be a New Yorker and an American.

A Jew and a Muslim modeling a politics of mutual respect, rejecting cynicism. Human decency has been taking a beating but she's not out just yet!

Wild news about Lance Stroll. Sitting on this for weeks. That he couldn't have made this decision weeks ago or at least before quali? Seems incredibly selfish. Both for Drugovich and rhe engineers.

A quick and easy way to cancel at any time with zero hassle is the killer feature of Apple's IAP. I cannot stress how much that is worth all these other negatives to me as a customer.
One reason Apple fought tooth and nail to disallow web payments for apps:

Because Apple’s IAP is SO bad in many ways, and *so many* apps will move to web-based payments now not mainly because of the 30% Apple fee, but because of how bad IAP is (from a dev perspective).

Let me give you21 examples:

As someone who's worked in news for the last ten years I know Bluesky has the juice when I repeatedly see news events on Bluesky 10, 15, 20 minutes before I get a push notification from @nytimes.com, @washingtonpost.com, etc. Orgs that literally spend tons of time and effort on being first.

This whole time my family thought the game was called "Blueprints", and to be fair they only heard me say the name and watched me play. The pun never even occurred to me till I corrected it.

Overall I think this is a fine feature but if @bsky.app is serious about not being the checkmark authority then individuals need to be able to add and remove any verifiers from the app. Until then it isn't really any different than existing centralized systems.

we’re really not interested in being the sole checkmark authority! Looking forward to adding more Trusted Verifiers over time—you can imagine different verifiers covering different fields and specialties
