It's one of the few levers we have so I am going to use it.

Meant it as a +1, sorry that didn't come through. It was a great point.

Politicians shitposting is a political dead-end for the same reason why a Rogan of left is impossible. Left politics cannot flow from cults of personality because it comes from serious consideration of politics, valuing every human, and clear support for collective action.

And to say this is not specific to this thread, which overall makes great points, including this one.
This is one of the reasons the trend of coop news orgs is so exciting, they get to produce media without the natural schizophrenia of many large orgs in which a few executives live lives that oppose the principles of the publications they manage.

It is easy to say cancelling your sub is imperfect. At the same time, it is the only thing that breaks through. An article can do poorly, but is treated ephemerally or at worst reporter/editor specific. Subscriptions are lasting and actively affect the direction of a paper.

To reframe this a bit, if you want something to change at the NYT or wherever, then it will ONLY happen by cancelling your subscription. Doing nothing will result in no changes, and so people must decide when to use it. I wouldn't blame someone for their reason. Sometimes it is the feather.

There are many ways that people would like to influence the paper, but many options are gone. Removing public editors and ombudsmen, the collapse of alternatives papers, and more corporate minded ownership means that only the bunt options are on left. That's on the paper, not the reader.
