Boston born, SoCal home. Comms pro. Fan of ideas, humor, humility, equality, and empathy. I like to read. And not talk.
Excellent piece, mostly about basketball, but also thoughtfully more.

“Where does that leave us?” is perhaps the question of our time.
went long on the dark side of who/what we consider valuable, the trade deadline, the gutting of the washington post, and giannis' investment in prediction market, kalshi
Degradation by design
Valuation's dark side as seen in the NBA trade deadline, gutting of The Washington Post, and Giannis Antetokounmpo's investment in the betting platform, Kalshi.

“People should be talking more about…” is one of my least favorite tweet genres. Everyone is talking about everything all the fucking time if you’re paying attention

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics

My perhaps overly simplistic conclusion is that there’s only one group of people who can stop this madness: Congressional Republicans. Unless and until they grow a spine we’re in for any number of tragic consequences

this email update from my assistant, who was filling in and nervous to be answering calls from Frank while I was out, made me so happy I printed it out and saved it

Important life hack
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

"With enough repetition, anything can become a religion. It doesn't matter if it works or not, it simply matters if a person returns."

This book is sending me to all sorts of unexpected places. 💙

I do think this is a real distinction
Part of the issue is that Good at Words people are generally inclined to accept that people are all different ways and to think that’s just fine. Good at Math people have been allowed too much room to think that only they have the thoughts that matter.
