More than 800 workers at OEM Remanufacturing vote to join IUOE 955 in largest move away from CLAC in Canadian history EDMONTON – The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955 is welcoming 815 new members from OEM Remanufacturing following a historic worksite vote Nov. 27 and 28 in Edmonton, which saw workers choose to leave the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) following demands for better representation. “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome these hard-working Albertans into the growing IUOE 955 family,” said Chris Flett, IUOE 955 Business Manager. “Their calls for stronger representation and a more effective voice in the workplace have been answered. We very much look forward to working with this great crew and showing them the many benefits that come with being IUOE 955.” “I am incredibly thankful to the workers at OEM and the entire team at IUOE 955 for all the good work that went into making this historic Canadian labour moment happen.” IUOE 955 Assistant Business Manager and Director of Organizing, Anthony Noseworthy said, “this vote marks the largest migration of workers away from CLAC ever seen in Canada. “This is a true testament to the strength and resolve of IUOE 955 and the work we do to ensure our members are treated fairly, and with the respect and dignity they deserve for the important work they do,” he said. Employees first reached out to IUOE 955 around a year ago and since then, the local stayed in constant communication with OEM staff. The positive response to IUOE 955 on the worksite was immediate and grew quickly. “Over the past 12 months, we’ve had many discussions with OEM workers at our union hall, outside the OEM worksite, through various forms of digital engagement and more. The more we spoke and listened, the more support we earned,” added Noseworthy. “We’re excited to show these good folks what a real union can do for them.”

Zohran Mamdani’s historic win in New York is a beacon of hope and possibility – proof that a people-powered, solutions-focused, democratic socialist campaign can defeat entrenched power in the centre of global wealth. His campaign did what so many said was impossible. Despite a tidal wave of corporate spending and a chorus dismissing his ideas as “too radical,” voters gave a huge victory to a candidate who spoke directly to the everyday emergency of just trying to get by in a rigged economy, offering concrete solutions as big as the crises working people face. Like so many Canadians, I’ve been deeply inspired by Mamdani’s campaign – by the way he built power from the ground up, organizing with working people, tenants, young people and a diverse multiracial coalition long shut out of political power. It’s the same energy and vision that’s driving our campaign here in Canada: a politics that takes on concentrated wealth, offers public options where markets fail, makes life much more affordable, and integrates climate solutions into everything we do. Mamdani’s victory isn’t an outlier — it’s part of a new wave of bottom-up politics. Its lesson is simple: if you fight for people, people fight back with you. Tonight, New Yorkers showed that politics rooted in justice, dignity, and solidarity can win — and win big. Canadians are hungry for that same courage and clarity.

Conservatives are supporting Liberals to ram Bill C5 through Parliament with hardly any debate and no input from stakeholders - not the public, builders, enviros, Indigenous groups, municipalities….no-one.
This is no way to unite Canadians or build major projects.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds.

He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings.

He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights.

This is political intimidation.

Lander just got detained by federal agents as he tried to escort a man out of the courtroom. Lander was taken in an elevator with masked agents, along with one member of his NYPD security detail.
