son’s been watching old America’s Funniest Home Videos from 2002. kids don’t understand that without phones with high-fidelity cameras, you really had to put in the work to make a cat video

just goes to show: better leap to trans defense, or trans will make you past tense 🏳️‍⚧️
Spanberger’s GOP foe spent 57% of her ad budget on anti-trans attacks. Spanberger focused on the economy. You see what won. trib.al/fkMmsR4

The simple truth told time and time again in the polls: The public doesn’t care about trans issues. Voters care deeply about the economy, inflation, & prices.

explaining that someone's box refusing SSH connections is a layer 7 issue when I'm more layer 1-4 as a network engineer: I make the roads to the club and order you a limo to get there, but I can't help it if they don't let you in

(talking to my son about my parents’ dog that snapped at him)
Me: Son, Grandma and Papa’s dog passed away today.
Son: Oh… (gets a sad expression)
Son: (sad expression goes away, mouth opens as he turns to my wife) I think I like that.

network engineering is receiving emails from Cisco about new switches w/cloud AI nanotech self-repairing super ports while fielding emails from Facilities because some finicky monitoring gear from the Bush II administration that only works at 100 Mbps with OM-1 fiber with ST connectors crapped out

those of you not in Virginia: again our Republican governor sent out $200 checks a few weeks before the election with his name on the letter and it didn't help

last night’s results were so good that the horrible night-of-election-results knot in my stomach I just get every election now unknotted by 9:15 PM

(NYT/WaPo/CNN hagiography voice) some say that the American foreign policy decisions that were made with the assistance of Dick Cheney were controversial

that's why I'd like him to win: the powerful people arrayed against him are, to a man, without hyperbole, everything wrong with the Democratic Party today
So look: I think going forward you can simply ask future D candidates about the Mamdani campaign and their answers will tell you all you need to know. Was his campaign a joyful reminder of politics done the right way to them? Or some existential threat to them? It'll tell you all you need to know.

most effective campaign ad I’ve seen is the Spanberger one where she has Earle-Sears saying “EYE AM SPEAGUNHHHH!” over and over with what E-S believes. delivers a one-two punch of not only is my opponent a crackpot, she’s also incredibly irritating

minor point, but it continues to be hilarious and pathetic how much conservative psychosis derives from different hair color. my gimcrack theory is that it’s subconscious shorthand for “bodily autonomy” and conservatives don’t like that
it's utterly wild how the Heritage Foundation president talks about other people

if you found a guy talking like this outside, you'd probably call the cops

report back from AT&T: solution is for them to run an aerial fiber cable that *spans two miles*
this is probably one of the very few times where I feel completely defeated by a network issue, so I’m just sitting at my desk zoned out and miserable looking at our provider sending emails with “no ETR”

I have literally no alternatives that I can offer besides “use a hotspot or go home”
new one for me after 20 years as a network engineer: our two circuits with “path diversity” are both down because they were both severed when *a coal train derailed* www.wtvr.com/news/local-n...

mother-in-law--a fifth grade teacher--yesterday: (annoyed) "I learned a new word from the kids this week: 'gooning.' It's where you (jack off motion) and rub it on someone's face. Yep."

bluesky, I regret to inform you that I set the record straight
