I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

Underfunding of public goods like public libraries requires many to apply for grants to agencies like IMLS.

IMLS does important work that enables libraries, archives, and museums to serve us all.

If you like longform storytelling journalism (and can stomach reading about one of the biggest asshole loser antagonists ever) I really recommend this month’s @atavistmagazine.bsky.social piece

Cool af protagonists! Guidebook for rural anti-fascism! Popper taught from a UCC pulpit! Maine imagery!
What does a community do when a fascist intent on destroying democracy comes to town? Lessons from Springfield, Maine, courtesy of a rabble-rousing journalist, a grumpy lumberjack, World War II vets, and more.

Atavist issue no. 156 by Mira Ptacin

How Concerned Citizens Ran a Neo-Nazi Out of Rural Maine
Before he promoted lies about Haitians eating pets in Ohio, Christopher Pohlhaus tried to build a fascist compound in America's whitest state. His neighbors had other plans.

I make baguettes every Sunday which means making the dough after supper, letting it rise overnight. There is nothing easier to bake than baguettes. No kneading! The recipe is 6 cups of flour, 2 tsp of yeast, 2 tsp of salt, and 3 cups of water. Mix, let sit (covered) overnight.

Dems last month flipped control of PA's capital county. How?

A pastor & local activist came out of nowhere to score upset for the ages... after campaign almost entirely devoted to highlighting jail death crisis (!).

Now the outsider is thrust in the inside. a WOW story:

Pastor and activist Justin Douglas will soon be plunged into an insider role, helping run the state’s capital county. Can he leverage his new power to change Harrisburg
