She lit a cigarette as she shouldered past spacelings from all over the galaxy on the promenade of Station Q-47: traders, truckers, scientists, weird cultists, obvious spies, and less obvious pirates on leave. A security officer gave her a sour look for the cigarette but didn’t hassle her. Soon no one would care.

A lovely, warm, cozy sapphic fantasy about kindness, community, and learning to be your true self.

Given how much I enjoyed Leong's The Teller of Small Fortunes, I had high hopes for The Keeper of Magical Things, and I was not disappointed! 5 stars.

This is what I don't get about people who use AI. The whole point of writing is writing. Like ... what are you even doing here if you don't like writing? Go cook. Go hiking. Go ride a bike. Go play a video game. If you don't like writing ... then don't? But you can't claim a title you did not earn.

That’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually.

The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.
