A lot of people are conflating the ability of senate Democrats, the minority, to inflict political damage to Republicans by holding fast on the shutdown, and their ability to extract immediate and powerful policy concessions.

Getting Republicans to pass and Trump to sign into law an extension of ACA subsidies was never going to happen once this became a contest of wills. The only real potential outcome was getting rid of the filibuster. And that's not without its major downsides.
I should note that the prospect of ending the filibuster at this time has marginalized people fucking terrified because they fully expect it to result in a tidal wave of anti-queer, anti-trans and anti-minority legislature now without any real hope of recourse.

I have no faith that keeping the government shut will result in extending ACA subsidies. I am very concerned that keeping the government shut down will cause irreparable damage. I don't know what the right move is for Senate Dems, but I do know they don't have a "make everything ok" button

I do not love the guy, or his history with Uncommitted and I wouldn't have voted for him in the primary were I in NYC rather than over in WNY, but I think it's important not to spread misinformation about what a WFP vote means.

I keep seeing speculation that this ceasefire was on the table in January and that Bibi and Trump conspired not to take it. But I've never seen any reports that Hamas was willing to let all hostages go at once, and promise to leave. If Hamas wasn't willing to deal, the deal couldn't go through.
