I find it necessary these days to affirm the obvious because the descent into fascism is mostly a continuous, not discrete, process so here it goes:

these are internal checkpoints by secret police for what is routine freedom of movement.
It’s been reported locally, but I’m not sure how much national notice this has gotten. As part of this invasion by shithead goons, they are putting ICE agents in jetbridges and other parts of the airport at Minneapolis-Saint Paul. If you are flying Delta via MSP, you are putting yourself at risk.
ICE agents to begin checking documents at MSP airport, patrol jet bridges - Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will begin checking documents of travelers and workers at MSP airport, with patrols inside jet bridges.

25 years in, Wikipedia remains a rare thing on the internet: a global public good. 🌐 No paywalls, no ads chasing attention—just knowledge shared because it matters.

In an era of disappearing pages & vanishing context, Wikipedia endures by documenting, citing, and revisiting what we know. 🕰️🔗

Facts that didn't fit: Johnson also pioneered the "promenade concert" i.e., dancing, moving, not always seated, & his setting of abolitionist poem "Grave of the Slave." Perfect for MLK Day coverage! HMU, journos, to interview @universityofkansas.bsky.social musicologist. news.ku.edu/news/article...

“I learned from them very early that what one does with Nazis is kill them. I am not a pacifist."
Kevin is right -- holy hell! -- but among many other things, this obit demonstrates the possible price of resistance.
Holy hell, what an obituary

I can't move past the fact that the murder of Ms. Good happened almost completely because the doofus got caught up trying to shoot TikTok content.
Yeah, I think a lot about the choice the Trump admin has made to send film crews after everybody to show they're Doing Something.

Biden's DOJ (and Ellison's AG office) were rolling up fraudsters with convictions. But they didn't send influencers to advertise it. Cut to Rs saying Trump finally ACTED
The funny thing is they were. The 60 Minutes piece last fall with Homan ended with them on raids with ICE doing exactly what they are doing now but targeted. Biden just kept it quiet.

It’s funny how Wikipedia used to seem relatively unreliable, because it was written by regular people instead of encyclopedia experts, and now it seems relatively reliable, because it’s written by regular people instead of glib CliffsNotes robots
wikipedia turns 25 today! the last unenshittified major website! backbone of online info! triumph of humanity! powered by urge of unpaid randos to correct each other! somehow mostly reliable! "good thing wikipedia works in practice, because it sure doesn't work in theory" - old wiki adage

Look I’m as right wing as they come but I have sincere questions about Christian kids in high school sports. God’s always helping them and that isn’t fair. That’s why I support common sense legislation to keep them locked in tiny cages under the school where other students can poke them with sticks.

It goes without saying that in the US you’re not supposed to have a masked secret police that snatches people off the streets without knowing if they’ve committed a crime. That’s about as basic a requirement for a democracy as exists.
Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"

Israel's right-wing nationalist government certainly drives negative feelings towards Israel - but generalized anti-Jewish sentiment is also on the rise, and has no legitimate basis.
