Really good example of trying to foster AI doomerism in the comments I was describing. Even IF all of that is true (it's not, but sure), I can't stand the attitude of, well, since you *must* use X that's ethically compromised, you might as well just give up on everything! Just begging for a pass

A big moment for me was the big child labor / worker abuse scandal at one of the biggest kosher processing plants in the US. My dad stopped keeping kosher for the first time in my life he was so mad. Then the Conservative movement changed the rules of kashrut to say worker abuse made things unkosher
mention of “the jungle” reminds me again that upton sinclair intended that book to be a shocking expose of abusive labor conditions, but americans took it as a food safety warning instead
