My father used to tell me stories about how in the USSR the history books were edited and altered every year and everyone was supposed to nod and smile and pretend that nothing had happened and the "new history" had been there all along.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

I really think the lesson about fascism that the current ruling class learned from WW2 is that Germany lost but the capitalist side regrouped, we beat the Soviets and it ended up being fine
Carney's entire strategy is based on the assumption that the threat to Canada is purely economic. It's not. The US is a political, authoritarian, fascist threat. Economics is downstream from the political. Unless the political threat is addressed, no number of clever trade deals will protect us.

My parents are boomers, my aunts/uncles, most of the bosses I've had. When pressed about their financial means vs. their kids, they usually repeat nonsense about the "great wealth transfer." As if private long term care isn't going to have it. As if their 45 y.o. kid didn't need a place to live now.

They make $ on the REITs in their portfolios, collecting dividends from banks that prosper on real estate speculation.
Others can remain homeless while they tap the HELOC.

Well this is a fuckin' depressing stat: I've applied for over 120 jobs that I am supremely qualified for since December 1, using resumes and cover letters tailored to the positions, and still received nothing in return but silence or near-immediate rejections.
This fucking sucks.
