RECALL FOR HOUSTON The thirty day period to collect signatures to recall Mayor Whitmire has ended Unfortunately, we did not meet the amount of signatures needed. However, we want to thank every single individual and local organization that offered guidance, volunteers, encouragement and feedback; donated; platformed us; and spread the word. It was an eye-opening and motivating experience meeting people all across Houston organizing for other causes or just doing their individual part to make Houston a better place. Hearing personal stories of what motivated them to get organized or sign our petition made us feel more connected to the city, the cause, and informed how we operated the campaign. At every neighborhood or college campus we canvassed, political or community advocate meeting we joined, event we attended, or even walking down the street with a Recall shirt we got comments of support and thanks for the effort and work needed to remove Mayor Whitmire and make Houston a better and safer place for all of us. The good news is that we do know where and how we can improve for future efforts. We needed more manpower, a more thorough information campaign ahead of the recall to fill the information gap, and more funding to do it. We spoke to many people who simply were not aware that the negative things they noticed changing around Houston came at the behest of Whitmire. They blamed city employees, council members, METRO, or the county. Many lived in areas not as impacted by Whitmire's agenda and were shocked and saddened to hear about the lies he's told Houstonians, his cowardice in the face of Trump and Abbott, his support of ICE, him throwing millions away tearing up infrastructure and safety projects, etc. In terms of manpower, if we collected signatures solely by door-to-door canvassing we would have needed approximately 200 full-time canvassers walking all day, everyday to reach the signature count. Thing one: Whitmire is a problem. He’s DINO. He isn’t even interested in using his office for good.

He might as well be a GOP and ICE cooperative. Hope he’s defeated in his next primary.

Thing two: if advocates are called political by a political leader to discredit them that’s a big problem.

A 73-year-old woman died early Friday morning after she was struck by a truck while walking on Westheimer Road, which was recently cited as one of the most dangerous stretches of pavement for pedestrians in the United States.

Any mayor working with ICE to detain, arrest innocent people off the streets, in their homes, places of work, places of worship, should no longer have a role in serving their constituents.

Thank you for your reporting, @kissphoria.bsky.social. Whitmire is a craven coward who forgets he works for US, not the governor. He follows the capricious demands of a state who openly hates Houston and not the will of the city's people. He chases cruel goalposts that never cease moving.
