During the massive storms last year I was in the Yellow House in Rathfarnham, and some salty old dog at the bar told the barman that the wind was that strong "it'd tear a fiver from a Cavan man's hand".
The five best phrases I’ve heard for strong winds...

1. Blowing half a pelican (Danish)
2. Blowing hats and hay (Norwegian)
3. Blowing a hoolie (Scots)
4. Wind so strong it could blow a pig on to its hind legs (Estonian)
5. It’s so windy one of the chickens laid the same egg three times (English)

I needed this thread this morning.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

It is fucking silly to think an electorate should engage once every 5 years and then let the country run on autopilot. We need ongoing engagement in shaping the country and a chance to react to changes during a term. Participatory democracy is the way forward. CAs are a great first step #spéirgorm

Can’t be stated enough given the (mostly justified) praise for the Carney speech: the fallacy of International Law didn’t end in Greenland; it was blown to pieces in Gaza.

Report #1 on the impacts of non-consensual deepfake image abuse.

Sonia suffered years of panic attacks and needed counselling after photos, some dating from when she was a teenager, were edited & uploaded on an explicit site with her personal info.

She's come forward because of the Grok scandal.
A woman whose images were deepfake edited and uploaded to porn sites without her consent has appealed to the Government to use every power to stop predators.

She told Virgin Media News the abuse led to years of panic attacks and unwanted contact.

See now, this is one of the things nearby that we can do something about.

CnaM says they choose not to use the powers they have against Grok.

You can let them know you would like them to reconsider.

One huge difference here is that blocking works.

Block abusive people.
Block sealions and so-you-hate-waffles replyers.
Block bores.
Block edgelords.
Block the saps who post engagement bait.
Block me if it makes the place better for you.

Your feed is what you make it - blocking is a key tool!

Rare I offer praise for any Minister but when her colleagues have equivocated on what's happened and what needs to happen, she has very strongly called it straight so far and hasn't bent to pressure.

Brian Brennan says fines aren't the way to handle this issue. In powerful question he says prosecutions need to be taken in court.
