I feel the twin emotions of relief and guilt here. I got out in 2019, right before COVID and AI and such. I feel guilty for not helping and relief in not dealing with it. I got out because the job was damaging my mental health and I think it would be worse now, but I can’t help but wish I could help
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

People are very eager to be useful idiots for the right wingers when they cry “free speech!” I think it’s an emotional reaction because we’re literally taught growing up that free speech is a uniquely American value. We want to cling to that. But the right is using it completely cynically.

I agree to the extent that I might have given it a 2 for readability, but that was worse than anything I ever graded teaching except for the one essay that was just a copy/pasted Wikipedia article without the URLs removed.
