BREAKING via @schotthappens.com: A judge has ordered the immediate release of Arturo Gamboa, the SLC protester who did not fire his weapon but was booked for murder.
NEW: A protester was shot and killed at the Salt Lake City 'No Kings' march. A man is in police custody, booked on suspicion of murder—but not the one who fired the gun. From video, witnesses and interviews, @schotthappens.com and I tried to piece together what really happened Saturday.

Our report-
What actually happened at the Salt Lake City ‘No Kings’ shooting?
One man is dead. Another is in jail—but not the one who fired his gun.

It sounds like this was a threat of violence against an elected office. As a Democrat, I just want to loudly say that this is wrong, regardless of the party of the victim.

I prefer to see an intergenerational coalition in the Democratic Party. In a rapidly aging nation, that is the only winning formula.
The NYC mayoral is the first big race where we’ll see a generational fight over the future of the Democratic party - it won’t be the last. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/19/o...

A more personal post: I love her music so much, and "Don't Stay Away" (1967) is magic.

Northerners in the 1850s didn't realize what they were up against until a Senator was almost beaten to death on the Senate floor by a Southerner. What will it take before the Dems wake up to the danger they're in?
Democratic senators need to stop pretending that GOP senators are their “good friends across the aisle” and realize many of them are just lying sociopaths who are actively fanning the flames of violence against them.
It’s not just Mike Lee — Bernie Moreno is pretending that a registered Republican evangelical anti-abortion Trump voter who assassinated a Democrat and had more on his hit list is a representative of “the extreme left”

With the exception of a hint of a badge peeking out from beneath backwards hat guy’s untucked shirt, there’s no visual indication that any of these guys are law enforcement officers—much less authorized to use force inside a frickin courthouse.

This is an absolute betrayal of promises made by Congress to protect the people who protected American soldiers. A betrayal by people who think American greatness is based on half-assed military parades rather than being a credible ally to those that risked their lives for America.
An Afghan man who worked as a translator for the U.S. military during the war was detained by ICE after showing up for a hearing inside of a federal courthouse in San Diego, his attorney says. He fears that if he returns to Afghanistan, he would be tortured or even killed, @nbcsandiego.com reports.

The DHS’s use of force on Senator Padilla was uncalled for, cruel, and unacceptable

This was a deliberate attempt to intimidate an elected official whose only offense is standing up for the voiceless

But it’s not just about Senator Padilla, it’s about every person who dares to speak truth to power
