Interesting: a deep intake of breath just now from Andrew Marr on @LBC @AndrewMarr9 when I told him that the 1944 Educaton Act divided children into two groups: the 'educable' and the 'ineducable'.

Made me think my book might just be helpful.

Don't forget to repost good stuff as you pass through!

You won't get the dopamine hit of a notification when someone likes or reposts your repost, like you did on Twitter, so you need to actively make a conscious decision to remember to do it. We are the algorithm on here. #Bluesky

Friendly, but you need to interact more, repost things etc as you don’t automatically see all the posts of the people you are following.

Lots of new followers in the last few days - 👋🏽 I don’t post much but very into inclusion and SEND. Hate exclusions - we need a better way to meet children’s needs. If they can’t function in an environment then we need a better system to support them not punish them. We can do better.

We’ve been failing children with SEND, particularly those with Learning Disabilities, for generations. It’s just that we are now failing a greater number so it has become more noticeable and more noticeably expensive. 1/2

Good afternoon you lovely lot! It seems that dispatches have tried doing a hit piece on disabled people. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but benefits are not easy to claim, people don't get given free cars, and disabled people aren't the reason the economy is fucked!

Really important piece about how women in particular are bearing the brunt of the collapse of the SEN system. I'm in several FB groups for parents of children with disabilities and the VAST majority of those active in them, seeking solutions, battling for care, are mums.
I wrote about the way the SEND crisis is quietly unpicking women's lives - destroying careers, dismantling relationships, damaging physical and mental health.

And all this goes on unacknowledged.

Long read for The i Paper:

I was pretty brutally honest at today's event. Parent carers aren't supported. We aren't even seen as individuals, we can't look after our own health and well-being. The awful reality around parent carer suicide, transitions been non existent for our children or us. Services constantly failing us.

There is also a conversation to be had about whether the chronologically determined nature of the National Curriculum is a contributing factor in the increasing number of children identified as SEND. Important that the relationship between curriculum and SEND is explored in the Curriculum Review.

It's time to stop with attendance rewards. Heard of yet another pupil whose self esteem has been further eroded due to less than 100% attendance. Surely the rewards are quality teaching, education and socialising? The pupil missing this needs an approach of kindness & curiosity to help them back in

My sense is that the issues around meeting SEND needs and the approach to behaviour promoted by the friends of the Tory DfE are about to collide for the new Labour govt. Because you simply can't have a 'my way or the highway' approach to behaviour and also attempt to be inclusive of all needs.
