I knit, I read, I sew. I've tried most textile crafts and am even half way competent at some not listed. Not tatting though or lace.

I cosplay. I read fanfic. In fact I will read almost anything.

Not qualified to give legal advice.
Ah a new TV series for James May. Part of this was filmed outside our offices (having us all staring through the wi down possibly was off-putting to him and his team). So I think we're all watching.

The finale of the great TV comedy show Blackadder goes Forth.
Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.
Every single time.

Someone is doing some amazing street art near my office. This makes me think of Blodeuwedd, and Alan Garner's Owl Service.

Because James Watson has just died and because he seems to have been an awful person in many ways, there have inevitably been a lot of takes about the discovery of DNA. This article gives a more nuanced take.

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

In respect of baby knits for colleagues, I always ask if hand knitted items will be welcome. Some people prefer things that can be washed at an extremely high temperature, some people feel knits are too "folksy" and don't fit their aesthetic. And I always ask colours, normally I get "pastels" 1/2

Lemme give you an example of why behaving like an event's covid policy magically doesn't apply to you is dogwater behaviour. Not that people who do this care about the fallout, they got what they wanted.

Regardless, let's begin.

This week's #ShowMeYourKnits is for WIPs. My colleague, with the tiniest of baby bumps, agreed that yes she loves hand knitted items for babies, and that colour wise blues would be good. Oh, and due in January!!! Sooo I'm doing TinCanKnits Marley blanket as fast as I can.

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

Today is a bad numbers day. I've already mixed up times and heights, and other words. So maybe don't ask me about numbers today!

I'm on book 8 of 11 on one series I'm reading, and book 5 of 6 on the other, so I'm eyeing up other series ready to start. I feel like I want to try Kim Harrison's Hollows again. I read it up to whatever the last book was at that time, and I think there are 4 or 5 more now. 1/3

Gang, Archita Mittra needs our help. She's a vital critical voice, a great writer of fiction, and more importantly she's part of the community we've built and are building here. Let's help her reach a place where she can carry on being all of those things, and write whatever she has for us next. 🙏

So Internet, given that all my reorganisation and moving stuff about means sewing is hard, should I plan actual cosplay for Eastercon next year? I have some fancy print bedding (bnwt), comic theme type, and am planning on just nerdy dresses, no specific cosplay. I tend to do generic cosplay anyway

I've been tiptoeing my way through @poopraven.bsky.social Sigils of Spring, but have decided that I want to know what happens more than creeping past whatever made AK wishes luck. Yep, I did read a full 25% during my lunch break, and a further 15% since... omg I think there's extra trauma here!

I am watching the Game of Wool on the telly. Not sure how much more I'll be watching it's probably a bad sign that I'm arguing with the telly not even 10 mins through.

Well, someone is doing a lot of fireworks round here! Been going pop whiz bang for about 5 minutes so far, but utterly out of sight so no idea who/where.

My mum has a stall today at the local monthly market, which she's using to sell hand made hats to raise funds for NMD research in honour of her school friend. I'm doing an hour, and I'm watching the skies cloud over and get darker. This may be wetter and colder than I anticipated!

Trial run of my bat print dress went well, I managed to build a bookcase while wearing, so am going to assume I can do a day's work in the office while suitably Halloween clothed tomorrow. Also please see the label, and my tights!
