Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

The department of education administers federal student loans. Our children need those funds for higher education. We all benefit from a well educated population.
🚨 WELL, HE DID IT: Trump just signed an executive order to abolish the Dept. of Ed., because apparently, an informed and educated public is just too much of a threat to his authoritarian dreams. 📜✂️

In 15 yrs of reporting, I've never had so many health & biomed researchers & outreach orgs tell me they're afraid to talk w/press or barred from speaking bc of new comms policies.

I understand the fear of losing funds. I don't know if silence does more harm than good. If you can speak up, pls do.

“I hate to predict things like that…” Unfortunately most economists think the unpredictable tariffs will have no short or long term benefits for the US economy. The boycotts will make things worse for the US.
People around the world are choosing not to buy American products to demonstrate their anger at President Trump’s policies. “We all feel that we are doing something,” said one boycotter. “We are acting on our frustration.”

In other words, AFGE is saying a government shutdown is less bad than this GOP bill.

Extraordinary moment — Nancy Pelosi issues a statement calling on Democratic senators to reject the House funding bill, i.e. to defy Chuck Schumer.
