Hostile environment policies, whether it be immigration or welfare, always treat people as guilty until proven innocent. It'll continue until the government and politicians start seeing claimants and immigrants as people, instead of mere numbers in an incomplete database.

Surely increasing bin collections to fortnightly would be simpler than creating a new council and far less likely to fuel baseless conspiracies. Once every three weeks is to long anyway, if you ask me.

Interesting report. Would have benefited from talking to folks who know about sex work and the web when writing this (p 24). Sex work has never really been hidden and recent laws making it harder mean sex workers have to go to greater lengths to promote their work at every chance they get.

A digital ID system is very much a form of surveillance. Sure, this govt (probably) isn't going to track meat purchases with it as per the misinfo, but this govt or the next almost certainly will push for much wider adoption beyond what's currently planned, partly to justify the cost.

British TV channels are struggling to compete with American media behemoths. So obviously the answer is to sell your self to them. 🥴
ITV in talks to sell television business to Sky.
Sky is owned by US-based Comcast, largest shareholders include Vanguard Group, BlackRock.
CMA must block the takeover. No one must own more than one major media outlet. Need diversity and competition.
