This was a funny experience, my first 'hit' on YouTube where I experienced a whole spectrum of human opinions.

The three most common comments were:
- Whoever made this music is an idiot
- Whoever made this music is a genius
- Can it play Doom?

I'm reposting this video as it is going to be relevant again.
A narrated primer on the field of #connectomics.
With some historical re-enactments, a few easter eggs for the real #neurds, and some of my best #neuro visualizations.

Our work in connectomics is featured in @asimovpress.bsky.social! We’re building new tools to map the brain with greater precision and scale!
Can we treat brain disorders by restoring neural connections?

For centuries, neuroscientists could only guess. But connectomics—a method seeking to create a 3D model of every neural connection in the brain—is moving closer to providing answers.

I'm surprised when I hear that people still don't find mundane utility in LLMs. I'll mention two simple things: Perplexity Pro will read several websites and generate essays with 10+ citations leveraging papers and industry websites. Immensely useful compared to regular search 1/

This is a big deal!
Microscopy Nodes is now up on bioRxiv! 🚀

This is a Blender extension that seamlessly integrates and visualizes 3D microscopy data (TIF & @zarr.dev).

High-quality volume rendering for anyone, in both EM and fluorescence, regardless of computational expertise! 🔬

I really enjoyed making this #neuro #visualization for @e11bio.bsky.social last November. A pleasure working with them, the entire way through. I'm really excited to see their technology scale up.

I was doing some research for a lecture I'm putting together and TIL that these may be the first ever drawings of #neurons by Otto Deiters published posthumously c1865.

Anyone know of drawings that pre-date these?

Happy New Year everyone!

Here's a mashup of some of my favorite clips from this year, set to old-timey ragtime piano.

I hope you enjoy having this song stuck in your head as much as I do.
